Ashford Mill is Peak District perfection! Fans of Channel 4's Remarkable Renovations or BBC Countryfile may recognise this gorgeous stone holiday home in Ashford in the Water. It's featured on both programmes due to its history as a watermill and the multiple award-winning renovations that allow the cottage to generate sustainable hydropower. While parts of the Grade II building date back to 1086, the oak beams and flagstone floors are only a few centuries old. Accommodating seven people in three bedrooms, families have a unique opportunity to add their footprint to the history of such an important building.
Ashford in the Water is a charming village between Buxton and Bakewell in the Peak District National Park. The location is ideal for exploring this picturesque region, starting with a walk from the mill to the medieval Sheepwash Bridge - one of the most photographed landmarks in the area. Stop by the Holy Trinity Church to see fine examples of the Ashford Black Marble that was mined here for 150 years. The village takes place in the annual Well Dressing festival, an event unique to Derbyshire that takes place over the last week in May.
Bakewell is another charming town on the bank of the River Wye, well-known for its Monday market with over 100 vendors. Buxton is at the other end of the shopping scale. The spa town was a favourite with fashionable Georgians and Victorians whose taste for luxury is evident in the stylish architecture and upmarket boutiques and restaurants. Other local attractions include the world-famous Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Cubar Edge, and Thornbridge Hall. Walking and touring the Peak District is a visual delight, with the views below ground being as impressive as those above. Poole's Cavern and Blue John Cavern are ideal for a wet-weather outing.
