About 98 Fountain Villas

Fountain Villas is a charming Grade II listed Georgian property in the beautiful town of Matlock Bath and within walking distance of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There is space for up to 16 people to sleep in seven bedrooms, making it perfect for Christmas in the Derbyshire Dales with your extended family, milestone birthday celebrations, or a group holiday in the Peak District with your favourite friends.

Matlock Bath is an excellent choice for a holiday destination at any time of the year. Everything you need is on the doorstep, including beautiful walks along the river, parks, gardens and a children's play area. One of the town's landmarks, Jubilee Bridge, is opposite the house, putting you in the heart of this historic town.

Visiting Matlock Bath is not a new activity. It has been a tourist hotspot for more than 200 years and the love people had for staying here is evident in the gorgeous period buildings - including 98 Fountain Villas - which are a characteristic of the town. Favourite local attractions include the Heights of Abraham and its cable cars, the towering face of High Tor, Matlock Bath Aquarium and the Peak District Lead Mining Museum. All of these places are within walking distance of the house, as is Gulliver's Kingdom theme park.

The Peak District National Park and places like Bakewell, Buxton, Eyam plague village, Haddon Hall, the Monsal Head Viaduct, Crich Tramway Village, and the magnificent Chatsworth House are only a short drive away, with many also accessible by public transport from 98 Fountain Villas.

The countryside surrounding Matlock Bath is breathtaking in every season, which is one reason this area is a favourite holiday destination for its many repeat visitors. A short walk to help get your bearings goes from Matlock to Pic Tor, with other way-marked routes including the circular path to the neighbouring villages of Bonsall and Cromford. Cycling and mountain biking are also popular, including along the traffic-free High Peak Trail. Carsington Water has a host of activities like sailing and cycling just eight miles from the house.

Whatever your reason for choosing to stay at 98 Fountain Villas, you and your guests will be delighted that you did. The location means there is always a choice of activities regardless of the weather or the season, while the high standard of accommodation ensures guests can relax, unwind and enjoy their stay.

Accommodation Comprises:

98 Fountain Villas dates from 1847 and retains many original features. Accommodation is spread over three levels.

Ground Floor:

  • Steps lead to the front door which opens into a tiled hallway with a high ceiling and doors leading to the living and dining rooms.
  • Spacious living room with a big window overlooking the promenade and letting in lots of natural light. Huge sofas provide a place where guests can put their feet up and watch a film on the Smart TV or make good use of the choice of books and games thoughtfully provided by the owner.
  • Dining room with two eight-seater dining tables. Like the living room, the dining room is at the front of the house and has a big window looking out over the front garden and the promenade.
  • Most of the rear of the ground floor is given over to the fitted kitchen with is very well equipped with everything needed to cater whether you are rustling up a huge breakfast for hungry guests to a quick midnight snack. The kitchen includes a range cooker as well as a more contemporary oven and stove, a dishwasher, and a big fridge/freezer. There is a pantry with a washing machine, ice maker, further space to store food, and a full complement of crockery, cutlery, utensils and equipment.
  • Cloakroom with space to store coats and shoes, and a WC with a handbasin.

First Floor:

  • A staircase with the original balustrade takes guests to the first floor where there are four beautiful bedrooms and a family bathroom. All of the bedrooms have tall sash windows that are a fantastic feature of the house.
  • Elegant suite with a king-sized bed, bedside tables with reading lights, and proper storage. The ensuite has a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Two bedrooms have a double bed and space for a cot if it is required.
  • Double room with a king-sized bed and proper storage.
  • Tiled bathroom with a shower, WC and a handbasin.

Top Floor:

  • Suite with a king-sized bed and an ensuite shower room.
  • Two triple bedrooms with three full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds and lots of storage.
  • Modern bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and handbasin.
  • Conveniently, this floor has a small kitchen/breakfast room so guests don't have to go all the way downstairs for their morning tea and toast. A door opens onto the rear patio and garden.

Outside: In addition to the rear garden, 98 Fountain Villas has a seating area overlooking the promenade at the front, a big driveway with off-street parking for up to five cars and a gated pathway to the side of the property leading to a back yard with small table and chairs where you can sit in shade (a good place to store bikes and outdoor gear). The enclosed rear garden has a lovely patio/decking area with outdoor furniture (seating for the whole group!) just made for relaxing. A lovely place for an alfresco meal, BBQ or sundowner whilst admiring the lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Children can play and let-off steam in one of the two play areas which are over the river (accessed via bridge) - one is adjacent to the house on the opposite side and the other is located further along the river.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets and towels are included with hire. A travel cot (no bedding) is available on request. Well-behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement - please ask before booking. Smoking is not permitted indoors. The house is not suitable for parties.
