About Bowmont Cottage

Bowmont Cottage is a holiday home for all seasons. The single-storey cottage is on the family-run Bowmont Hill Farm in a gorgeous location on the fringes of the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland. It sleeps four people in two bedrooms and is ideal for couples, families or friends. Bowmont Cottage is literally a five-minute walk from the Scottish border and is also very close to the Northumberland National Park. There is so much to do here that being bored is not an option!

The nearest town to the holiday cottage is Wooler. Although small, Wooler is a friendly town with excellent amenities that include five pubs, two wine bars, cafes and takeaways. It has a traditional feel with an independent butcher, baker, deli and chocolate shop, all selling the best local produce for your self-catering stay. Eleven miles away, Kelso is another excellent choice for shopping and eating out.

The Cheviot Hills have amazing footpaths, cycling routes and running trails to suit every ability. Whether you're the sort of person who loves to challenge themselves by climbing to the highest point, or your idea of a good walk is a bit of a stroll to a country pub with a table booked for lunch, you'll find the perfect path here. Some suggested local routes include Bowmont Hill, Breamish Valley Hillfort Trail, Hetha's Hike, Three Forts Foray, and the path to Humbleton Hillfort. There are also fantastic footpaths in Coquetdale, around 20 miles from Bowmont Cottage. Favourite routes here include Lordenshaws Loop, Copper Snout and Clennell Street, along the River Alwin, and through the Simonside Hills.

North Northumberland is blessed with a breathtaking stretch of coastline. Bamburgh is around a 40-minute drive from the cottage, with its much-photographed castle and sandy beach. Take a day trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, or drive half an hour to Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Bowmont Cottage is a great choice for anyone who wants to fish for salmon or sea trout on the mighty River Tweed. The River Bowmont flows through the farm and is good for sea and brown trout. Mountain biking, horse riding and golf are all readily accessible.

Bowmont Cottage is dog-friendly and available for bookings all year round.
