Little Owl Lodge is a lakeside pine lodge at Rural Roosts near Stainfield, surrounded by woodland, wildflower meadows and open countryside on a 300-acre working farm. Sleeping four guests in two bedrooms, the lodge suits couples, small families, or friends wanting a quieter holiday style, with a focus on nature, fresh air, and slowing down a bit. The private hot tub and covered deck overlooking the fishing lake make it particularly easy to settle into holiday mode here, especially after a long walk or day exploring Lincolnshire. This part of the county often gets overlooked in favour of more famous destinations, but that's honestly part of its charm. The landscape feels open and unspoilt, the roads are quieter, and there’s space to properly switch off.
Lincoln is within 10 miles and offers plenty to fill a day or two. The cathedral and castle dominate the skyline above the old Bailgate area, where narrow cobbled streets are lined with cafés, independent shops and historic buildings. Lower down the hill around Brayford Waterfront, there’s a more modern side to the city with restaurants, bars and waterside walks. Closer to the lodge, the Viking Way runs through Stainfield and opens up miles of countryside walking, while the Water Rail Way offers an easier traffic-free route for walkers and cyclists heading towards Lincoln or Boston. The Lincolnshire Wolds are also within easy reach for longer walks, scenic drives and village pubs hidden among the rolling hills.
Rural Roosts itself is a huge part of the experience. Guests can walk through the farm's woodland and reservoir, fish in the private lakes, watch birds in the wetlands, or simply sit on the veranda and enjoy the peace and quiet. There's a real emphasis here on wildlife and conservation, which gives the site a more natural feel than many lodge parks. Families can head to Lincoln Zoo or Rand Farm Park nearby, while aviation enthusiasts are well placed for Lincolnshire's RAF attractions, including RAF Coningsby, East Kirkby and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Even the coast is reachable for a day trip, with Lincolnshire's wide sandy beaches at Sutton-on-Sea, Mablethorpe and Skegness around half an hour away. It's the kind of place people often discover by chance, then return to because it feels refreshingly unhurried.
