Welsh Cottage is an idyllic country retreat for couples. It is dog friendly with all the character you could hope for in a period cottage surrounded by gorgeous countryside only ten minutes from Ledbury. You're a stone's throw from the River Wye and the Welsh border, close to the Forest of Dean and perfect for anyone who loves walking, cycling, wandering around historic sites, and enjoying delicious food and drink. The holiday rental is part of the White House farm cottages in Aylton. Stay as a solo traveller or a couple, or book more cottages so your family and friends can join you for a wonderful stay. The farm has five charming properties comfortably accommodating up to 15 people.
Aylton is a tiny hamlet with fewer than 150 residents. A welcoming community has lived here for over a millennia, tending fields and worshipping in the medieval church. You won't find a prettier slice of rural bliss with guests of Welsh Cottage raving about the scenic footpaths and bridleways. Guide a canoe along the famous River Wye, or book a trekking experience at nearby Putley Riding School. Other local attractions include the ancient trees at Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway, and the International Centre for Birds of Prey. Wild swimmers will find a range of dipping spots in the nearby Wye, and you're only half an hour from St Anthony's Well near Cinderford which has long been a place of pilgrimage and healing. The Malvern Hills and Symonds Yat are also within easy reach, with the owner providing handy information for exploring the local area.
History lovers are spoiled for choice in Ledbury. Eastnor Castle, Hellens Manor, Goodrich Castle, and Hampton Court are just a few places to visit, and you can't miss Hereford Cathedral with its incredible Mappa Mundi and chained library. Spend a day mooching around in Ludlow, starting at the castle (where Henry VIII's older brother died and changed the course of British history), browsing the local market and making the most of the wealth of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Gardeners will love National Trust Berrington Hall, whose garden is the last created by Capability Brown. From food and music festivals to towering cathedrals and castle ruins, there's always something wonderful to see when you stay at Welsh Cottage.
