The Barn is a fantastic self-catering cottage in a lovely location on the edge of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The stone barn has been carefully converted from a former out building of Forge House into a place where you and your family can unwind, enjoying comfortable accommodation. The two-bedroom cottage sleeps four people and is in the hamlet of St Owens Cross.
It really doesn't matter what time of year you visit the Wye Valley because the scenery is spectacular in every season. A favourite beauty point is Symonds Yat Rock which stands proudly above the River Wye and offers breathtaking views. You are spoiled for choice of footpaths and mountain bike trails when you stay at The Barn because the Malvern Hills AONB, Black Mountains, and the Brecon Beacons National Park are all within easy reach. In addition to walking and cycling, there are great opportunities to fish, play golf, kayak and climb.
Days out can also include sightseeing and shopping in pretty towns such as Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye and Chepstow. The cathedral city of Hereford is also within reach, with a great variety of shops and restaurants as well as a cinema. Add Ludlow to your itinerary if you enjoy shopping and eating, as its centuries-old black-and-white timber buildings are full of independent boutiques and cafes. Discover a hidden Herefordshire gem a few miles south of Ludlow at Richard's Castle where the medieval St Bartholomew's Church stands next to a Knight's Templar chapel that is only a short walk from the remains of one of the earliest Marcher castles. The views from the churchyard are spectacular and, because it is almost a secret, you will probably be the only people there.
Being so close to the border between England and Wales means that you are never far from a castle. Chepstow and Raglan Castles remain imposing structures where visitors can get an idea of what it was like to live and work in these fortified buildings, or you can soothe your soul at Tintern Abbey or Llanthony Priory, both of which are incredibly picturesque ruins.
With its classic oak flooring, comfortable furnishings and extensive private garden, The Barn is the ideal antidote to a rushed, hectic lifestyle. Whether you travel as a couple, a family or with friends, this cottage provides a warm welcome to you all.
