Old Forge Cottage is brimming with character from top to bottom. Recently refurbished to a high standard, the period holiday cottage sleeps up to eight people (plus infant) in four bedrooms with furnishings that are both comfortable and stylish so that guests feel welcome as soon as they arrive. Being close to the centre of historic Ross-on-Wye means that guests are within walking distance of the market, tea shops and pubs.
Ross-on-Wye epitomises the word "charming". With its picturesque location beside the River Wye and easy access to beautiful walks and bike rides, it offers everything guests want from an escape to Herefordshire and the Wye Valley. Stop by St Marys, which has been a focal point of the community for more than 700 years, making time to drink in the panoramic views at The Prospect next to the churchyard. On a clear day, you can see as far as The Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains - both favourite spots for local and visiting walkers and mountain bikers. Symonds Yat is breathtaking all year round and especially memorable in autumn, while the Forest of Dean is also worth visiting. For those who enjoy fishing, the owner can offer half price fishing at their nearby lakes on Trippenkennett Farm.
People have been doing their shopping undercover at the Market House for 400 years, where there is a thriving twice-weekly market every Thursday and Saturday. It's an excellent place to browse and pick up local produce to cook back at the cottage or take home as a tasty souvenir of your holiday. With a choice of cafes, pubs and supermarkets, you won't go hungry!
There is plenty to see and do during your stay at Old Forge Cottage. Spend a day shopping and sightseeing in Hereford, where the cathedral houses the medieval Mappa Mundi, or enjoy a relaxing few hours browsing the bookstores in Hay-on-Wye. Being so close to the Welsh border means there is no shortage of castles with the closest to Ross-on-Wye being Goodrich, Skenfrith and Grosmont. The Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo is always a favourite, as are Puzzlewood and Clearwell Caves.
There's nowhere quite like the Wye Valley for a holiday. The scenic landscape is peaceful in every season yet offers lots of opportunities for adventurous types. It's fun and relaxing, and a fantastic choice for guests of any age.
