20A Kirkibost offers a huge slice of Outer Hebridean heaven. Take a spectacular location on Great Benera on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and layer luxurious furnishings and jaw-dropping views over Loch Barraglom and the Uig Hills. You will start to understand why this Scottish holiday home is so special. The contemporary house was designed specifically for its location on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, incorporating walls of glass that draw you into the landscape even while you're lounging comfortably on the sofa or are cosy in bed. 20A Kirkibost is the perfect property for families as it sleeps six people in three bedrooms and welcomes well-behaved dogs.
The Isle of Lewis is part of the Outer Hebrides, where the uninitiated may expect a location this far north to be frosty and snow-capped in all seasons. However, the Gulf Stream makes this north western corner of the UK remarkably mild, allowing you to enjoy pristine beaches and clear azure water that look like they are in the Caribbean rather than being on the same latitude as Norway. The landscape and weather make the Isle of Lewis a haven for birds and wildlife where everything from golden eagles to otters, seals and roaming stags thrive. The village of Kirkibost is on the western coast of Bernera. The small island is a dream to explore on foot or by bicycle, as it's only five miles long and three miles wide. Villages are separated by crofts and grazing fields, with gorgeous views everywhere, with the beautiful Bosta Beach just a 10 minute drive from the house.
Bernera is where you can escape and immerse yourself entirely in beauty and solitude. Wander past ancient standing stones and the remains of Iron Age buildings, seeing evidence of settlement dating back to the Picts in circa 400AD. You can hire bikes and ebikes in the main town Stornoway, and they will provide a great opportunity to explore the Great Outdoors. Other day trips on Lewis and Harris include visiting Stornoway Castle Grounds, the extraordinary Calanais Standing Stones and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Any beach lovers will be spoilt for choice. Enjoy a blustery walk along the huge expanses of either Traigh Losgaintir (Luskentyre) or Traigh Sgarastaigh (Scarista) or enjoy one of the sheltered coves scattered along the coastline. After a blissful day, nature will treat you to the best show on earth: a Hebridean sunset over the sea loch.
