Welcome to The Keeper’s Cottage: Your Secluded Woodland Retreat
Rustic Charm in a Secluded Woodland Setting
Step back in time at The Keeper’s Cottage, nestled within the serene surroundings of Clyne Valley Country Park. This rustic cottage, built in the mid-1800s, offers a secluded woodland retreat just a short drive from our main farm site. Immerse yourself in nature as you explore the local walks and mountain bike trails, or simply unwind in the tranquil ambiance of the countryside.
Interconnecting Cottages
The family friendly cottage sleeps 8 guests. If you book Barn Owl Lodge next door the cottages can interconnect to sleep up to 16 guests.
Cottage with a Rich History
The Clyne Estate is steeped in history, and when it was owned by the Vivian family of Copperopolis fame many dignitaries were welcomed to enjoy hunting deer in the woods, often taking tea on the lawn of The Keeper’s Cottage. It is said that these dignitaries included former British Prime Ministers Stanley Baldwin & Sir Winston Churchill, and also royalty including Prince Edward who later became King Edward VII, & his grandson Prince Edward who later briefly became King Edward the VIII.
Imagine the tales of former British Prime Ministers and royalty who once graced these grounds, as you relax in the timeless charm of this historic retreat.
Dog-Friendly Accommodation for Family Getaways
We understand that your four legged companions are part of the family too! That's why The Keeper’s Cottage welcomes dogs and other pets upon request. With spacious grounds and nearby walking trails, it's the perfect destination for a family getaway with your four-legged friends. There is a supplement of £5 per night per pet. We can take up to 4 pets per property. If you have more than 4 just get in touch and we will see what we can do.
Bring your horses on holiday too
Adjacent to the rustic cottage is a fenced paddock, perfect for guests bringing their horses on holiday. Enjoy miles of riding routes around Clyne Valley Country Park and nearby beaches. Contact us for more details.
Cottage Layout
The self-catering cottage features a downstairs area with a hallway, TV room, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, L-shaped twin bedroom, double bedroom, and a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Upstairs, discover a landing, a bathroom, and a double bedroom. Each space is thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and convenience, ensuring a delightful stay amidst the woodland surroundings.
Outside there is a lawn area with a stone BBQ. There is a large grassy paddock surrounding the cottage so lots of space for children and dogs to burn off their energy. The area is fenced but not fully dog proof.
Note: The area is not partitioned off from the outdoor area next to Barn Owl Lodge. We ask that guests respect each other’s space, and share the beautiful surroundings with each other. You are enveloped by 700 acres of Country Park so space should not be an issue!
Mobility Note: Accessibility Features
The secluded woodland retreat features ground floor amenities, including a shower 'wet room' and single internal steps for accessibility. Experience comfort and convenience during your stay, with thoughtful accommodations for all guests.

Accessing the Woodland Cottages
The self-catering cottage is accessed via a private 0.8 mile long unpaved stone track through the woods. See photos in the gallery. There is a 10 mile per hour speed limit. We suggest you take it slow as it is used by dog walkers, horse riders, hikers, and cyclists etc. The only vehicular access allowed is for guests staying at the two woodland cottages. So be mindful that some users are not used to encountering cars on the track! As long as you drive sensibly the track is no problem for most vehicles. However as it is unpaved, and there may be potholes, it is not suitable for cars with very low ground clearance. So leave the low rider supercar at home!
Take in the natural beauty of Clyne Valley Country Park as you make your way to your peaceful retreat.
