Living
Barn Owl Lodge is deep within Clyne Valley Country Park, reached by a long track that winds through the trees before the cottage comes into view. The holiday house in Mumbles sleeps eight across four bedrooms, with space spread between the main living area and a lighter sunroom that looks out over the pond. Great for big families and friends, the building is part of the Clyne Farm Centre. It's been sympathetically updated for 21st-century guests, yet hasn't lost the authentic charm. It's quiet in a way you notice straight away, especially in the early morning when you'll hear birds before anything else.
The setting of Owl Barn Lodge is an amazing feature. You can walk or cycle straight from the door into the valley, with miles of woodland trails that shift between shaded paths and more open stretches. It’s also one of the few places locally where your horse is as welcome as you are. Riders love that there's a paddock next to the lodge (booked in advance), and established riding routes running through the park and out towards Clyne Common. Dogs tend to settle in quickly here, as there's plenty of space and lots of things to see and smell. If you want the coast, it’s close enough to dip in and out. Caswell Bay and Langland Bay are both about 10 minutes apart by car. Caswell is usually easier for a quick swim. Langland's is better if you want a longer walk and somewhere to stop after.
Head further out, and you're into the wider Gower Peninsula, which has an entirely different feel. Rhossili Bay is the beach most people know, but the wild beauty of Three Cliffs Bay is equally seductive. Go early if you can. It's quieter, and the tide's often on your side for the walk across the sand. Closer to the lodge, Mumbles is an easy option for food or coffee. Places like Verdi's are popular for a reason, especially if you time it for a time outside the busiest part of the afternoon. It's the sort of area where you end up doing a bit of both - coast one day, woodland the next - without needing to organise it too much.
There's plenty of adventure as well as relaxation to be had at Clyne Farm Centre. You can book horse riding lessons and rides at the farm, try the Muddy Assault Course, or use the larger barn space for retreat activities, group meals or celebrations. Barn Owl Lodge is next door to The Keeper’s Cottage if you are looking to holiday with additional family and friends.
