Symonds Yat Rock Lodge is a collection of fantastic self-catering apartments close to the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. Whatever the time of year, this is a wonderful holiday destination with lots to see and do from canoeing down the River Wye to mountain biking and walking through forests and along countryside trails. The contemporary, dog-friendly apartments are ideal for couples who appreciate the location is close to the region’s main attraction and only a mile from the New Inn pub in Shortstanding, and not much further to the Saracen’s Head in Symonds Yat, and the Dog and Muffler in Joyford.
The Wye Valley is poetic in its beauty. The river snakes its way through lush pastures, past dramatic cliffs and ancient woodland and beneath castles that have stood for more than a millennium. Whether you want to spend all day walking or are happy to stretch your legs only as far as from the car park to the viewpoint at a beauty spot, there are more than enough options to delight. The owners of Symonds Yat Rock Lodge have curated information on a series of walks to help you make the most of your time in this beautiful landscape, including easy trails that pass a country pub or two, to the Wysis Way, and stretches of the Offa’s Dyke Path and Wye Valley Walk.
In addition to the view at Symonds Yat, rock climbing and canoeing or sailing along the Wye, local attractions feature the magnificent ruins of Tintern Abbey, the ancient forest at Puzzlewood which is said to have inspired Tolkien to create Middle Earth, and the underground world at Clearwell Caves and Hopewell Colliery. Ross on Wye and Monmouth are lovely market towns with lots of shops and places to eat and drink, as well as a good variety of historical buildings (the bridge at Monmouth is the only fortified river bridge left in Britain). Remnants of the tension between the English and the Welsh remain in the form of castles like Goodrich, Monmouth, Raglan and Chepstow, and you can easily drive to the historic cities of Hereford and Gloucester for a day trip.
The landscape of the Wye Valley may not inspire you to write poetry or paint pictures like it did Wordsworth and Turner, but its peace and beauty will refresh your spirit.

There are six apartments at Symonds Yat Rock Lodge, each of which has been perfectly designed to provide a high standard of accommodation for couples. Apartments 5 and 6 are the newest of the group and featured in this advert (please see the owners website for details on other apartments). Decorated in a fresh, contemporary style they benefit from stunning views of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

Outside: French doors open from the living room to a private outdoor patio with a table and chairs. There is a garden and barbecue area which is shared with guests of other cottages, and footpaths lead directly into the Forest of Dean. Off-road parking for two cars is available.
Additional Information: The apartment has central heating. WiFi is available on-site (the speed you would expect in a rural area!) and included in the price along with utilities, linen and towels. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and the owners can provide towels, blankets and leads if necessary. Short breaks are possible all year round (two night minimum). No smoking.
