Arles Barn ticks every box on the "welcoming holiday cottage" list. Located in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's perfect for couples who want a comfortable home-away-from-home where they can sleep well, relax and enjoy themselves without having to worry about things like noisy neighbours or uninteresting views. The detached barn sleeps two people in one spacious bedroom and features beautiful stone walls, a contemporary bathroom, a modern kitchen, and fantastic rural views. And before you think, "wow, could it get any better?" know that it can, because it's a short stroll from three dog friendly pubs, the nearest just a two minute walk away.
Shortstanding is popular with walkers, mountain bikers and road cyclists who stop at the pub for lunch and a refreshing pint before setting out again to explore the miles of excellent trails like the Wysis Way, Wye Valley Walk, and others going through the Forest of Dean. Symonds Yat Rock is a favourite beauty spot with stunning views over the Wye River, along which you can take a river cruise, canoe or sail. Fishing on the Wye is a real treat for anglers, and it's also great for birdwatching. If you're a fan of a round of golf, you'll enjoy having a choice of four first-rate courses within just a few miles.
You'll find all of the amenities you need for your self-catering holiday nearby in Coleford or a few miles further away in Monmouth or Ross-on-Wye. The local shops and a Chinese takeaway are just a ten minute walk away, but we highly recommended that you also check out some of the fantastic markets to stock up on fresh food and some of the delicious local cheeses, a gastronomic joy enhanced further with a glass of wine from one of more than a dozen nearby vineyards.
Local attractions include Puzzlewood, the Dean Heritage Centre, Tintern Abbey, and Chepstow Castle. Visit Hereford Cathedral to see the medieval Mappa Mundi, or immerse yourself in the beauty of the choir at Gloucester Cathedral's evensong service. Try your luck on race day in Chepstow or Cheltenham or go shopping in the market towns and villages of the Cotswolds and the Brecon Beacons. You'll never run out of ways to have fun when you stay here.
