Arles Barn is your ultimate couples’ retreat: stylish yet cosy, tucked in the heart of glorious Gloucestershire countryside, dog-friendly, and just a quick walk from a classic country pub. Perfect for unwinding, exploring, and real downtime.
Tucked away in the peaceful hamlet of Shortstanding, just moments from the River Wye, Symonds Yat and the lush woodland of the Forest of Dean, Arles Barn is a stylish and beautifully converted stone-and-timber barn designed with couples in mind. Whether you’re seeking a romantic break, an active escape, or simply time to breathe in the beauty of the English countryside, this charming one-bedroom retreat delivers the perfect balance of comfort, charm and convenience.
Step through the door and into a thoughtfully designed open-plan living space that blends rustic character with modern style. Exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling and warm oak flooring create a welcoming and cosy atmosphere, while underfloor heating ensures year-round comfort. The lounge area invites you to sink into the comfy sofa with a book or film, warmed by the gentle glow of the electric log effect stove. French doors open out onto your private patio, offering views across neighbouring fields - an ideal spot for your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine as the sun dips behind the trees.
The well equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing everything from a light breakfast to a romantic supper. With an electric hob, oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher, plus all the essential utensils, you’ll feel right at home. A small dining area sits beside the kitchen, making meals a cosy, relaxed affair.
The spacious bedroom is a restful haven, with the flexibility of a super king-size bed or two singles on request. Crisp linens, quality furnishings and a calming colour palette make for an excellent night’s sleep. Adjacent to the bedroom is a sleek and contemporary shower room featuring a large walk-in shower, heated towel rail, and -like the rest of the barn - underfloor heating for that touch of everyday luxury.
Outside, the private garden patio is a tranquil space to enjoy alfresco dining or simply listen to the birdsong. Beyond the gate, a network of walking and cycling trails awaits, including easy access to the Wysis Way and the Wye Valley Walk. The Forest of Dean is right on your doorstep, with opportunities for kayaking, mountain biking, forest bathing and wildlife spotting.
With secure off-road parking, bike/kayak storage, WiFi, and a dog-friendly policy (for one well behaved pooch), Arles Barn has everything you need for a stress-free countryside break. A welcoming country pub is just a two-minute walk away, while nearby Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye provide plenty to explore.
Whether you're curling up inside with a movie and a glass of wine, or enjoying the sunset on a warm summer evening, or returning from an adventure in the woods, Arles Barn offers a peaceful and private retreat for two in one of the UK's most scenic and relaxing regions.
