The Whimsy is a beautiful home in a quiet location within the National Forest. The modern cottage sleeps up to four people in two comfortable bedrooms and is very pet-friendly, making it perfect for couples or families with dogs. There’s a good choice of countryside walks from the door, and the local village pub, the Black Lion, is just a short stroll away. The leafy outlook and lovely village location make The Whimsy a charming holiday destination for all seasons.
The cottage is on the edge of Blackfordby village. The closest town is Ashby de la Zouch, just three miles away and within easy walking or cycling distance if you'd rather not take the car. In addition to a choice of shops, including a market hall that's open six days a week and a monthly farmers' market, the town has restaurants, tea rooms and a 15th Century castle irreversibly damaged during the Civil War. Just outside of town (and in much better condition!) are the National Trust's Calke Abbey and, in Donnington-le-Heath,The 1620s House and Garden. The site of the famous Battle of Bosworth is about 10 miles away, where there is an award-winning visitor's centre, while the Bluebell Arboretum and nursery is much closer to home, being about two miles from Blackfordby.
You'll never run out of fun things to do. In addition to those listed above, local attractions include the Charnwood Forest Alpaca centre with its animal experiences and café, Staunton Harold Reservoir, Twycross Zoo, and the Conkers Waterside Marina. Explore on foot or hire a bicycle from Hicks Lodge and make the most of their off-road trails. Statfold Barn Railway is always a hit with children and train fans alike. Derby, Nottingham and Leicester are all within around half an hour's drive for a day of shopping and sightseeing, and Birmingham is not much further.
The cottage is on a quiet lane with fields on one side and very little passing traffic. It appeals to guests who appreciate being able to simply stroll down the lane to access countryside walks and rural views, yet is also perfect for visitors who enjoy having a choice of attractions and places to eat, drink and shop.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, sheets and towels are included. Departure cleaning is extra. Well behaved dogs are welcome for a surcharge and with the owner's prior agreement. Please enquire before booking. Short breaks are possible depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted.
