March Hare Cottage in Bretforton sits in the village centre being 1, Bridge Street. Famous for its many thatched Cottages and timber framed old stone cottages.
March Hare Cottage is situated over the road from the 13th Century St. Leonards Church. It's a two-bedroom 1800's holiday cottage (one double, one single), so it suits a couple or a small family. Parts of the building date back to the early 19th Century, and it still feels that way in places with flagstone flooring, thicker walls, and slightly wonky lines. The dog-friendly Fleece Inn is close enough that you can wander up without thinking about it, which most people end up doing at least once during their stay in this charming 19th Century holiday cottage.
Bretforton itself is picturesque as a base because you're straight out into open countryside within a few minutes. There are footpaths running out towards Badsey and along the edges of the Vale, mostly flat and easy going, good for slower walks rather than anything strenuous. If you head out early, it's quiet enough that you'll mostly hear birds and not much else. The Fleece tends to be the main draw later in the day - it's a National Trust pub, properly old, with a big orchard garden out the back that fills up when the weather's decent. Bretforton has a community village shop nearby for basics, but most people end up dipping in and out of Evesham or
Broadway.
Broadway is only 10 minutes by car and offers more, with it's cafés, delis, and a many pubs and restaurants worth stopping for lunch tea or dinner. From there, you can walk up to Broadway Tower, which sits high on the escarpment with views stretching back across the Vale of Evesham on a clear day. In the other direction, Chipping Campden has a different feel again, a bit more historic, and links into longer stretches of the Cotswold Way if you want a proper day out walking. Snowshill is worth a detour, especially for the manor and gardens. You don’t have to plan much here, just pick a direction and go. However, if you don't like to leave things to chance, you can easily pack every day full of new sights and attractions with excellent meals to fuel you.
