About The Front Wing - Pen y Graig

Pen y Graig - The Front Wing is half of a comfortable Welsh farmhouse in an elevated position above Church Bay, enjoying panoramic views stretching across this picturesque hamlet and the bay towards Holy Island. Less than half a mile from the beach, the holiday cottage retains all its original charm with pine doors, slate fireplaces throughout (there’s even one in the bathroom) and spacious, high-ceilinged rooms that feel wonderfully generous. The Front Wing sleeps four guests plus a baby, with a double bedroom and a particularly spacious twin room that catches those sea views. The property is pet free, suitable for families with children or a peaceful retreat for couples wanting a seaside break

Church Bay – or Porth Swtan as locals still call it – is a sheltered cove on Anglesey’s northwest coast where traditional fishing heritage meets relaxed beach life. The sandy and pebbly beach is backed by dramatic cliffs where the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path winds along above. At low tide, the beach opens up for exploration, with rock pools edging the bay that children love to investigate. The Lobster Pot restaurant, renowned for its fresh seafood (booking is advised), sits within walking distance, whilst the Church Bay Inn offers drinks in a proper local atmosphere. The Wavecrest Cafe serves home-cooked lunches, cream teas, and ice cream during the season and is the sort of place you'll end up visiting more than once. Church Bay is a great spot for swimming, and it's also popular with sailors and sea anglers too. The village itself is tiny and unspoilt, with St Rhuddlad's Church visible from the bay and giving the place its English name. Mark and Victoria have been welcoming guests to Pen y Graig for over thirty years, with many families returning generation after generation – children who spent summers here now bring their own children and grandchildren back.

The Anglesey Coastal Path, which covers 125 miles around the island with sections in both directions from Church Bay offering spectacular clifftop walks, is half a mile from the cottage. Head north towards Carmel Head and you'll pass Ynys y Fydlyn, whilst south takes you towards Penrhos and eventually Holyhead. The path is clearly signposted, and the views are stunning throughout. South Stack Lighthouse is just a few miles away, perched dramatically on its rocky island with 400 steps down (and back up) to reach it – the RSPB reserve here is brilliant for spotting puffins, guillemots, and razorbills during the summer months. Cemlyn Nature Reserve is nearby, home to breeding tern colonies and excellent for year-round birdwatching. Beaumaris on the island's east coast makes a lovely day out, with its UNESCO World Heritage castle, Victorian pier, independent shops, and boat trips out to Puffin Island. The town has excellent restaurants and cafés, plus Beaumaris Gaol if you fancy something atmospheric. Newborough Forest and beach on the southwest coast have miles of sandy shore and coastal dunes, whilst inland you'll find Plas Newydd country house and gardens overlooking the Menai Strait with views to Snowdonia. This holiday cottage on Anglesey gives you the best of coastal walks, beaches, wildlife watching, and historic sites, all from a peaceful base half a mile from the sea.
