Driftwood is a charming coastal retreat in Portsoy on the stunning Moray Firth Coast of north-east Scotland. Once home to a local fisherman and his family, this characterful holiday cottage has been thoughtfully modernised to provide a cosy home-from-home for up to four guests and their dogs. Most of the accommodation is on the ground floor, with a narrow staircase leading to a twin room under the eaves—perfect for younger guests due to the lower ceiling height. You'll fall in love with the cottage’s laid-back seaside vibe and its beautiful garden, where you can sit back, soak up the views, and enjoy spectacular summer sunsets or wrap up to watch the Northern Lights in winter. All of this is just a stone’s throw from the beach and local amenities, including the welcoming (and dog-friendly) Shore Inn pub.
Portsoy is a picturesque harbour town with a rich maritime heritage and a vibrant, friendly community. The two harbours are steeped in history, their walls having seen centuries of fishing boats and, more recently, skiffs and pleasure craft. Plan your visit around the renowned Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in late June, explore the fascinating Salmon Bothy Museum, and don’t miss a trip to the award-winning Portsoy Ice Cream Shop. The coastal paths offer breathtaking views, whether you head west towards Sandend and the ruins of Findlater Castle, or east along the Coastguard Path with its dramatic cliffs and wildlife.
Beyond Portsoy, the Moray Firth Coast is a delight of outdoor adventure and discovery. Discover unspoilt beaches, scenic cliff walks, and quaint fishing villages like Cullen and Findochty. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, or hop on a local wildlife boat tour for a closer look. Whisky lovers can explore nearby distilleries along the Malt Whisky Trail, while families will enjoy visits to the Macduff Marine Aquarium or a picnic at Bow Fiddle Rock. There are also golf courses at Cullen and Banff and opportunities for surfing at Sandend for those wanting to be more active. Whether you’re craving fresh sea air, local culture, or a relaxing break by the coast, Driftwood Cottage is your perfect Highland hideaway. Book your stay now and start planning your unforgettable coastal escape.
