About The Nest at Winnall

The Nest at Winnall ticks all the right boxes when it comes to location and luxury. The holiday cottage is made of softly weathered red bricks that are typical of houses built in Worcestershire in the 1800s, and occupies a peaceful position close to the River Severn. The owners have put their heart and soul into restoring the period property, and their attention to detail shows in every room. With space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, The Nest is perfect for couples and families who appreciate being able to discover the most beautiful parts of Worcestershire, Shropshire and the Cotswolds with ease.

The cottage is a mile from Lincomb and less than four miles from Stourport. It is a wonderfully rural area with rolling countryside bisected by the magnificent River Severn. Stourport-on-Severn has an excellent array of shops and places to eat, with picturesque Georgian buildings and a canal basin that harks back to the town’s birth at the completion of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal in 1771. Worcestershire has lots of charming towns and villages where you happily while away hours window shopping, including Droitwich Spa, Tenbury Wells, Evesham and Bewdley. The ancient city of Worcester with its wonderful cathedral, Tudor buildings, shops and entertainment, is only 20 minutes away, so there are plenty of choices to suit everyone.

Being outdoors is a pleasure with places like Hartlebury Common, Shrawley Wood, Kingsford Forest and the Wyre Forest all within a short distance of the cottage. You could also visit Arley Arboretum, and the Malvern Hills are under an hour’s drive, so there is no end of places to hike or ride a mountain bike, or climb into a different type of saddle at one of two excellent riding centres nearby. The Ombersley Golf Course is only ten minutes from the cottage and having the River Severn so close provides plenty of opportunities for anglers, who can also try their luck in the canal or one of the local fishing pools. Canoeists can paddle down the river and then ride back on a steam train.

Favourite attractions within half an hour of The Nest include the County Museum at Hartlebury Castle, the Severn Valley Railway, Harvington Hall, Hanbury Hall and Gardens, and the Avoncroft Museum. The very local Little Owl Farm Park is popular with younger visitors, while West Midland Safari and Leisure Park is a great day out for all ages. After a busy few days of sightseeing, you can treat yourself to a luxurious few hours at Orchids Spa, where guests on a dedicated Nest Spa Break can enjoy complimentary transport to and from the cottage, private use of the hot tub area, inclusive treatments as well as a buffet lunch and a selection of drinks from the mini bar.

Short breaks are also available so you can escape to The Nest for some much deserved R&R even if you only have a few days to spare.

Location (Worcestershire)

Accommodation Comprises:

The owners of The Nest have restored this beautiful 19th-century property to its former glory while cleverly bringing it up to 21st-century standards of style and luxury. Accommodation is over two levels and guests can expect extra special touches like a welcome basket with freshly baked bread & cake, as well as home-made jam and local produce.

The cottage is very child-friendly with a cot, highchair, baby monitor, bed guards and other necessary baby and toddler items being available if they are needed.

Downstairs:

  • The cream and powder blue kitchen will have you reaching for an apron and your favourite cake recipe. The stylish dining table and chairs complement the room's relaxed 1950s style, and with modern appliances and a view of the gardens through the window behind the ceramic sink, it is a very pleasant place to cook and eat.
  • Living room with a sophisticated palette of grey and plum, with deep armchairs and a cosy log burner in the fireplace. French windows open onto the patio, and the owners have provided a range of books and games for guests to enjoy during their stay.  A Firestick for streaming TV content is provided, as well as  Freeview channels and a DVD player so you can settle back with your feet up in front of a great film, or plug your phone into the Bluetooth speaker and enjoy your favourite playlist.
  • Entrance hall which doubles as a boot room, so you have somewhere to hang wet coats and store muddy boots to dry. Don't worry if you forget the kids' wellies - the house has a stash for younger guests who want to puddle jump and walk in the woods.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom featuring original oak beams and a 1,000 pocket sprung mattress that, coupled with the peaceful setting, virtually guarantees a good night sleep. The built-in wardrobe has ample storage space, while the stylish 1950s vibe continues in the choice of furnishings. A tiled ensuite has a walk-in shower, WC, handbasin and heated towel rail.
  • Second bedroom which has two single beds, both of which benefit from the same great quality mattress as the master bedroom. The blue and white decor is appropriate for guests of any age, and there is an ample wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage. All beds have a choice of pillows and high-thread count cotton sheets.
  • Family bathroom adjoining the twin room, including a Victorian roll-top bath as well as a separate shower, WC, original Victorian washbasin and heated towel rail. Soft Egyptian cotton towels are one of the many luxurious touches around the house.

Outside: The Nest has a private courtyard garden which is paved with reclaimed original quarry tiles removed from the cottage when it was renovated. Potted flowering plants and herbs attract butterflies and honeybees, and it is a lovely spot to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee, a leisurely brunch or a relaxed barbecue. The cottage has a dedicated parking space right outside.

Additional Information: The Nest has central heating and Superfast WiFi and all utilities, including a welcome basket of logs, are included. All bed linen, bath and hand towels are provided. The owners regret that they cannot accommodate dogs/pets. The Nest is strictly non-smoking/non-vaping.
