Kirkton of Assynt is a large Highland farmhouse in Inchnadamph. It's perfect for families who love spending every possible minute outdoors and being active, as it's beside the Cape Wrath Trail with incredible opportunities for walking and mountain bike riding from the door. The self-catering cottage is on the southern shore of beautiful Loch Assynt. It isn't easy to imagine a more tranquil setting than beside this large natural freshwater loch, surrounded by Highland scenery with incredible views from the house and the garden. There is space for eight people to sleep in four bedrooms. The owners have a self-catering room, The Byre, which sleeps three people, and you can book the two for families on holiday together.
As if this place could be any more perfect, Inchnadamph means "meadow of the stags" - is there a name that embodies the romance of the Highlands any better? Its natural beauty will take your breath away even before you set off on your walk. You won't need your binoculars to spot the deer, they come quite close to the cottage, but they're ideal for spotting birds and wildlife that thrive in this pristine environment like golden eagles and osprey. River, loch and sea fishing, caving, sailing, canoeing and wild swimming (wetsuit recommend!) are more ways to immerse yourself (sometimes literally) in this incredible landscape. A 20-mile drive and short ferry ride will take you to Handa Island and the annual breeding grounds for puffins and other sea birds. Alternatively, drive half an hour south to Ullapool to take an exciting two-hour boat tour around the stunning Summer Isles. Achmelvich and Clachtoll are part of the Scottish Wildlife Trust's West Coast Snorkel Trail, so bring your mask and flippers to discover that the beauty of the coast doesn't stop at the sand.
This cottage is ideal if you want to cover some of the spectacular North Coast 500, but it's a wonderful destination in its own right. Explore the ruin of Ardvreck Castle seat of the clan Macleod or the iron age Broch at Clachtol. Conquer famous peaks of Suilven, Conival, Quinag and Canisp, or drive 15 miles to the nearest sandy beach. Thirteen miles away, Lochinver has a wide choice of places to eat, drink and shop, and is handy for buying the supplies for your self-catering Highland holiday. Whether you stay for a few days or settle in for a week, you'll always remember your holiday at Kirkton of Assynt.
