Duart Cottage is charming crofter's cottage sitting in an idyllic position above Loch Nedd close to the village of Drumbeg on the north west coast of Scotland. With only the resident wildlife for your neighbours, and stunning sea and mountain views, it is the perfect retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The original cottage has been modernised to ensure it is cosy and comfortable, yet it retains many of it's characterful and original features such as the exposed beams and thick stone walls. Sleeping four guests in a double and twin bedroom, it is ideal for families and friends whilst also feeling cosy for couples too.
The area surrounding Duart Cottage is popular with hill walkers, mountain climbers, ramblers, bird watchers and nature lovers. Keen walkers can climb the highest peak in Sutherland, Ben More Assynt (which translates to 'big mountain of Assynt'), whilst those looking for a lower level stroll can explore the vast number of footpaths from the front door. You can walk for miles and miles without seeing another soul, yet the village of Drumbeg, with a general store, greengrocer, craft shop, artist’s studio and a hotel with a bar, is just two miles away. A little further away you can find a wider selection of shops and restaurants in the local fishing villages, or for a real treat head to Loch Duart to buy some fresh Scottish salmon.
If you would prefer to spend your time at the beach you have plenty to choose from. The large sandy beach at Clashnessie Bay, less than six miles away, is perfect for building sandcastles, a family game of rounders, or walk upstream to the Clashnessie Falls. Just a little further away you can try your hand at windsurfing and kayaking at the sandy beach at Achmelvich Bay or enjoy the white sand and clear turquoise sea at Clachtoll Beach. Other interesting day trips include visiting the lighthouse at Stoer, exploring Europe's smallest castle at Hermit's Castle at Achmelvich or visiting the impressive limestone Smoo Cave.
