About The Roaches

Blackshaw Grange offers a choice of three comfortable dog-friendly self-catering properties ideally located on Blackshaw Moor in Staffordshire - the gateway to the Peak District National Park and a superb base for exploring the areas many attractions.

Nestling amongst the owner's private grounds, the holiday homes are perfectly sandwiched between the popular Derbyshire Spa town of Buxton, and the Staffordshire market town of Leek (lovingly known as the 'Queen of the Staffordshire Moorlands'). A stunning setting for a host of outdoor adventures and popular choice for walkers, cyclists and climbers.

With some of the area's most breathtaking scenery on the doorstep, Blackshaw Grange offers guests the chance of peace and tranquility. It's setting is perfect for those with an appreciation for beautiful scenery with views that encompass the spectacular ridge of The Roaches, and easy access to the Tittesworth Reservoir and Nature Reserve.

Leek with its cobbled streets and Victorian splendour is less than five miles away and offers a good choice of shops and places for a meal out. Alternatively, head to Buxton and marvel at the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and the impressive Crescent to name just a few of its many highlights.

It's hardly surprising the Peak District is such a popular holiday destination all year round, with attractions that are sure to please all ages and energy levels. For those who enjoy retail therapy head to The Potteries, or put the fun back into shopping and visit picturesque Bakewell with its independent shops, pretty courtyards and great choice of cafes beautifully packaged in a riverside setting.

Take the younger ones for a day they won't forget at Alton Towers; enjoy a birds eye view of the stunning Peak scenery at the award winning Heights of Abraham; have an underground adventure at Poole's Cavern or one of the areas other renown caves; or for something a little more sedate, visit Chatsworth House. There are too many to mention but whatever the weather, above the ground or below, there are no shortage of amazing days out to enjoy.

Location (The Peak District)

Blackshaw Grange offers a choice of three holiday homes that are perfect for couples, families (small or large) and pet owners. The Roaches is featured in this advert and is the largest of them all, sleeping six guests in three bedrooms. The Winking Man offers first floor accommodation for three guests in two bedrooms; and Ramshaw Rock is perfect for couples with a double bedroom and ground floor living (possibly suitable for those with limited mobility). Large family groups of up to eleven can also be accommodated when all three cottages are rented together (sorry but only families and no hens or stags).

The Roaches is spacious and detached so offers guests a good degree of privacy.

Built of attractive stone and split across two levels, accommodation comprises:

  • Well equipped kitchen with electric cooker (including two ovens), dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and door taking you outside.
  • Welcoming sitting room with comfy seating, television (forty six inch) with DVD player (and also sound system), and dining table with chairs - a nice place to enjoy supper and relax at the end of an exciting day exploring the area.
  • Cloak room with WC and wash basin.
  • Master bedroom with super-king size bed.
  • Two additional bedrooms which each have two single beds.
  • Family bathroom with separate bath and shower cubicle, WC and wash basin.

Outside: Set in extensive grounds, there is plenty of space for guests to relax outside when the sun shines. Each cottage also has its own area for sitting outside with outdoor furniture.

Additional information: Washing machine and tumble dryer available (for shared use of guests staying at Blackshaw Grange). Dogs are most welcome (three dogs maximum) and there are many wonderful walks to enjoy with them. Central heating throughout so perfect all year round. WiFi internet access available. Short breaks offered (except during the peak summer weeks unless at short notice). Strictly no smoking in the cottage.
