Sandes by Water is perfect for families and friends who like to spread out and enjoy their own space, yet still spend time socialising with each other. Four double bedrooms comfortably sleep nine guests, with a sofa bed providing the option to accommodate an extra person if required.
The Grounds
The cottage is 10 metres away from a large fresh water lake for the sole use of the cottage residents. A waterside path encircles the lake, allowing for picturesque natural walks. Along with the main pier there are three jetties as well as various maintained bank areas. Find yourself surrounded by the local wildlife, from ducks to robins, deer to hedgehogs. Excellent fresh water fishing lake 400 metres from cottage day passes can be arranged.
The Local Area
The house sits on five private acres in the village of Goxhill, just south of the beautiful Humber Estuary in North Lincolnshire, close to a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Ramblers and cyclists love this area for the variety of excellent routes that lead through the beautiful countryside both the Humber bank and Humber bridge walks come highly recommended, and there are also good pubs for a meal out within a mile or two from the property. Goxhill is a friendly village with a train station, Co-op grocery shop and, around a mile from the cottage, Shawbriggs Tea Shop. Five miles away, Barton-on-Humber has more amenities including independent shops, cafes, takeaways and a good range of pubs. There is a nature reserve which attracts birdwatchers and a leisure centre with gym, pool, badminton etc.
Barton-on-Humber is best known for the incredible suspension bridge which spans the width of the Humber. Choose a clear day and walk across it to enjoy some of the best views in Lincolnshire. There is free car parking and a nature trails on the Barton side with the country park on the North side to visit, as well as some lovely walks along the foreshore at Hessle. The Tileyard and the Ropewalk are top rated restaurants to plan a walk around both serve coffee and food on the daily. As well as this, the Barton market has returned as of 2024 where you can find local crafts, farm fresh produce and a rotating selection of venders. The Barton market is held on the first Saturday of each month typically, but don't fret, the Brigg market with many similar traders is held on the 4th Saturday of each month!
The seaside resort of Cleethorpes is around half an hour’s drive, or you can catch the train directly from Goxhill. Cleethorpes is a fun day out for the whole family, with a vintage steam railway, country park, boating lake and children’s play area as well as the flat expanse of clean sandy beach with a traditional pier and promenade that situates 'Papas' a good fish and chip restaurant . If it is too cold for the beach but you are desperate to swim, Cleethorpes Leisure Centre has a large indoor swimming pool with a wave machine and slide.
Other places to visit during your stay at Sandes by Water include Hull, the UK City of Culture 2017, with a wealth of shops, theatres, museums and galleries, as well as The Deep Aquarium (car travel time 28 minutes approx.). Do not miss a trip to beautiful Beverley, where the Minster is just one of many historic buildings in the market town worth seeing along with a visit to Beverley races. Needless to say the famous farmers market at the towns heart is unmissable whether an event is on or not. The ancient cities of Lincoln are around an hour by car, offering even more attractions, history, shopping and food. To name just a few: the castle, the cathedral and the old town district preserve history with a unique shopping and tourist experience lesser seen in todays world, the Bomber command memorial Lincoln is worth a visit to make a day of it. A trip to York allows a great experience for the whole family with a range of shops, many eateries, an enthesis on history and the famed jorvik centre. Skegness is home to fantasy island, pleasure beach and various swimming centres, taking 1 hour and 15 minutes travel via car. A favourite day out for all ages is the Yorkshire wildlife park complete with polar bears, lions, bears, zebras and many other exotic rarities as well as many themed eateries, cafes and live shows, making it a gem of tourism in Yorkshire attracting regular crowds.

As well as a private lake just metres from the door, it has secure bicycle storage, and the owners can even arrange for your horse to stay in the paddocks next to the house. Our friendly staff offer a truly unique experience, tractor driving in our self driving John Deere, or try quad bike sledging and horse riding can be arranged depending on your size and experience prices and dates can be arranged through the owner. The garden is kid-friendly, so Sandes by Water offers a holiday every member of your family can enjoy!

The owners of Sandes by Water have taken great care to create an incredibly comfortable environment that immediately feels welcoming and homely. Thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack and fuel for the wood burner, as well as the incredible gardens and lake, make this a stand-out holiday cottage in Lincolnshire.

Outside: As lovely as the inside of Sandes by Water is, its gardens are equally impressive. There are not many holiday cottages with a dedicated lake well-kept by the owners, let alone one which also has paddocks so you can bring your horse. There are five acres of peaceful gardens including off-street parking at the front of the house, and a patio with garden furniture and a barbecue at the rear. A summer house by the lake is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the delightful view, pontoon and gardens, or take a well lit lakeside walk around the entirety of our 2 acre wildlife trail.
Additional Information: The property has property-wide WiFi and oil-fired central heating throughout. All linen and towels are included, and a travel cot and high chair are available on request. Short breaks (four night minimum) may be possible depending on availability - please enquire with the owner regarding price.
