Fairview Cottage is in a gorgeous rural location on a family-run smallholding in the Lincolnshire village of Wickenby. It's ideal for a relaxing getaway for couples or families, with space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms and a double sofa bed that increases the potential number of guests to six. It's close to the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, only a few miles from the historic city of Lincoln and 40 minutes from the coast at Cleethorpes Beach. Walking, cycling, golf, fishing and sightseeing are all fantastic ways to enjoy this beautiful location all year round.
Wickenby is best known for Wickenby Aerodrome, with a unique WWII history showcased in the Control Tower Museum. It's a must-see for anyone with a history in WWII or the RAF, especially when followed by a cuppa and a slice of cake in the cafe, watching the planes taking off and landing. It's also dog-friendly, so no one needs to feel left out. There are gorgeous walks and bike rides from the door of Fairview Cottage. The seven-mile cycle from the village to Nettleham is scenic in all seasons. National Cycle Route 1 goes from Wickenby to Lincoln, with another route going to Snelland. Having the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds practically on the doorstep means that there's always somewhere wonderful to walk or ride. Golf and horseriding are readily accessible, with Woodhall Spa offering the opportunity to swim in an outdoor pool. The Lindsey Rural Players are based in Wickenby. They have a full programme of amateur and professional performances, so see what's on during your stay and be sure to book tickets before you arrive.
Day trips from Fairview Cottage can include visiting picturesque market towns like Market Rasen, Louth, Brigg, and Horncastle, all of which have regular markets selling local produce, crafts and gifts. Take the kids to the Woodside Wildlife Park, Rand Farm Park, or on the high ropes course at Wild Pines Park. Spend a day or two shopping and sightseeing in Lincoln. It's only 14 miles away and has handy Park and Bike stops if you want to avoid the traffic and take the scenic route in. Lincoln is famous for its cathedral, but its history dates back beyond the Romans, whose footsteps you can walk in along Bailgate and Steep Hill. It's a brilliant city with something for everyone.
A day at the seaside is always a fun choice. Cleethorpes, Anderby Creek, Mablethorpe, Sutton on Sea, Moggs Eye, and Skegness are all under an hour's drive from Fairview Cottage. If you're there in winter, make an effort to see the seal pups at Donor Nook. Other attractions include Doddington Hall and Gardens, Just Wake at Tattershall Lake and Water Park, Belton House at Grantham, Snipe Dales Country Park and the Garden at Baumber.
Centrally located and with lots to see and do in every season, Fairview Cottage will quickly become one of your favourite self-catering cottage holidays.
