About The Hollies

The Hollies is the perfect place for families and friends to spend time together catching up. The 200-year-old farmhouse is in a fantastic location in South Kilworth, immediately next door to a friendly local pub, The White Hart. There is space for up to 18 people to sleep in six bedrooms, while its location within easy reach of the M1 (just 3 miles from J20!) makes it ideal for people travelling from different parts of the country, especially considering that Birmingham Airport is only 30 miles away and within an hour's drive.

South Kilworth is in South Leicestershire in the heart of England, with good road links that make getting out and exploring a pleasure. In addition to its pub, where they have been pouring pints for four centuries, the village has an excellent award-winning butcher that sells cuts of locally reared meat. More shops and amenities are available in the nearby towns of Market Harborough and Rugby, both of which also have mainline train stations with regular services to London that take between 50 and 75 minutes.

Leicestershire is underrated as a holiday destination as, not only is it nice and central, but it has lots to offer visitors in terms of country walks, historic houses, exciting cities and a wealth of activities to suit every age and interest. One of the area's best attractions is Stanford Hall, only a mile and a half from The Hollies. The grand home is one of the best examples of George and Mary architecture in the UK, made even more impressive by its 700 acres of gardens and parkland.

Leave a day to spend discovering the sights of Coventry, just twenty miles from The Hollies. The city suffered from bombing raids during WWII and, sadly, its magnificent cathedral fell victim to a bomb and is now a touching ruin. Miraculously escaping damage is the medieval Guildhall where Shakespeare himself acted, and there are lots of other museums as well as shops and places to eat. If you wanted to follow in the Bard's footsteps, then Stratford-Upon-Avon is within an hour's drive of The Hollies. Alternatively, the city of Leicester is a 30-minute drive north, with lots of lovely countryside in between.

The Hollies is ideal as a base for exploring far and wide yet, because of its spacious interior and generous garden, is also perfect if you want somewhere to host a weekend of family fun and celebration.

Prices: A flat rate of £605 per night is charged (two night minimum) for 2024 (an additional £75 cleaning fee is also added per booking).

Accommodation Comprises:

The Hollies has several living areas of different sizes where guests can congregate and socialise or escape for a quiet half an hour to read or nap. The owner lives in an adjoining annexe and is on hand to greet you on your arrival and answer questions about the property.

Downstairs:

  • Quiet sitting room with comfortable leather sofas, original floorboards and a decorative fireplace. It is a peaceful, grown-up space where adults can chat. There is a large TV with DVD player and Netflix available.
  • Cosy breakfast room with a lovely fireplace, two tables so adults and children can eat separately if preferred. The room also has a large bookcase full of books and information about the local area. This room also has warm wood floorboards that match the age and character of the house.
  • Country kitchen with flagstone floor, solid pine antique table and an open dresser storing cups and crockery. For all its rustic charm, the kitchen is perfect for a self-catering holiday for large numbers.
  • Utility room next to the kitchen with a back door that opens onto the courtyard and rear garden.

Upstairs:

  • Beautiful triple master bedroom with a kingsized bed plus single, proper storage and a big window overlooking the garden. An adjoining bedroom is now a spacious ensuite with a freestanding roll-top bath as well as a separate shower, a period cast-iron fireplace, WC and handbasin.
  • Five further bedrooms (one with an en-suite) can accommodate up to 15 guests. Each has a double or king-sized bed with three of them also having a single bed and one having bunk beds. All bedrooms have a television with Netflix available.
  • A family bathroom has a roll-top bath, shower, WC and handbasin, and there are two cloakrooms with a WC and handbasin in each.
  • Snug with comfortable seating and good internet access.

Outside: The Hollies has an enormous, half-acre garden which is a mix of lawn and mature trees. A courtyard next to the house has garden furniture and is shaded by a beautiful magnolia tree. There is also a covered area which is perfect for barbecues, and an inflatable hot tub under the gazebo which can be hired at an additional charge of £75 (please speak to the owner if you wish to hire the hot tub). Off-street parking for five cars. There are several discrete CCTV cameras in the outside areas (and three inside the property) which are a big plus for security in a big house in a rural area.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, sheets and towels are all included. Short breaks (two night minimum) are possible all year round, depending on availability. Earliest check-in time is 3 pm, and latest check out time is 10 am. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
