Finches Cottage is rustic on the outside and luxurious within. The three-bedroom holiday cottage is in the picturesque village of Egleton near Oakham, with far-reaching countryside views and space for six people. The layout is ideal for families, though it also works well for couples seeking luxury accommodation in this beautiful part of the country. Rutland Water Nature Reserve is around a 10-minute walk from the property, providing easy access to miles of footpaths and excellent bird watching opportunities.
All of the shops and amenities you need for a self-catering holiday in Rutland are two miles away in Oakham, where there is a wide choice of shops that include a twice-weekly market (Wednesday and Saturday). Oakham has an authentic historic charm with heritage buildings, including Oakham School, dating from 1584 and an alumnus that includes politicians, bishops, actors, and leading athletes. Other places of interest include the Grade II listed Victoria Hall, the Oakham Signal Box, and the wonderfully restored Oakham Castle, the oldest building of its kind in Britain.
Having Rutland Water practically on the doorstep means guests at Finches Cottage have great access to various watersports ranging from SUPs to wakeboarding. Cycle or walk around its perimeter, hire a boat or book a seat on the Rutland Belle and enjoy the views and the commentary. They also run a special Osprey cruise that is ideal for birdwatchers and photographers.
Local attractions include the Rutland Farm Park, Rutland County Museum, Bugtopia Zoo, Barnsdale Gardens, and the Falconry and Owl Centre. The Anglian Birdwatching Centre leads into the Egleton Nature Reserve and is within walking distance of Finches Cottage or takes a short drive to the Somerby Equestrian Centre and enjoy a guided horse ride in pretty countryside.
Rutland may be the smallest county in England, but it is packed with beautiful views, excellent attractions, wonderful walks and memorable cycling routes. At its heart is Rutland Water, a beautiful lake whose shores are within walking distance of Finches Cottage. It's a wonderful holiday destination in every season for the scenery and the full calendar of events that include fairs, festivals, markets, and performances.
