This standalone state, not quite part of the United Kingdom, is famous for its TT race, but outside of the world of petrolheads the island has much more going for it. Surrounded by the Irish Sea, there is great potential for adventure, with kayaking, paddle boarding and wild swimming. Spot dolphins and porpoises from your cliff top walks or visit mediaeval castles and experience the island as it was 1000 years ago.

Stay in Cregneash for a view into ancient crofting culture, and one of the last strongholds of the Manx language. As a Dark Sky reserve, it's one of the best places on the island to watch the night sky, perhaps from the comfort of your very own private hot tub. You might even spot a Manx cat - recognisable for having no tail!
