Tigh nan Eoin – Gaelic for House of Birds – is a traditional croft cottage in the peaceful hamlet of Tighnafiline on Scotland’s wild and beautiful west coast. With spectacular views towards Loch Ewe and direct access to open countryside, this cosy holiday cottage offers a warm welcome to walkers, nature lovers and anyone looking to slow down and reconnect with the land. Set within the Wester Ross UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and on the edge of designated Wild Land, it’s a place where red deer, eagles and otters are regular neighbours, and the only sound you’ll hear is birdsong or the distant call of the sea.
The cottage is just a short walk from the shores of Loch Ewe and the friendly village of Aultbea, where you’ll find a well-stocked shop and the Aultbea Hotel and Jam Jar Bar for a hearty evening meal or a dram by the fire. In summer, join the locals at a ceilidh for a true taste of Highland hospitality. The area is steeped in wartime history, with the Arctic Convoy Museum and WWII Trail telling the story of Loch Ewe’s vital role in the Second World War. Other nearby attractions include Inverewe Gardens, Corrieshalloch Gorge, and the beaches and cafés of Gairloch are just 25 minutes away.
Outdoor adventures are easy to come by here. Walkers and climbers will find endless miles of trails, from family strolls to Munro-bagging routes, while those on two wheels can enjoy quiet country roads with spectacular views. The area is also a haven for kayaking, paddleboarding, and wild swimming. Fancy going further afield? Ullapool, Inverness, and the North West Highlands Geopark all make excellent day trips. And with the North Coast 500 just two kilometres away, Tigh nan Eoin is a brilliant base – or peaceful pit stop – for those tackling Scotland’s most scenic road trip.
