Tigh an Eilean is on the edge of Loch Carron with views so distracting you could easily (and happily) lose hours gazing over the water and the mountains. It's in the little village of Lochcarron and very convenient for the famous North Coast 500 route and the Isle of Skye. You won't find a nicer holiday home to feel settled while exploring the Highlands and the northwest coast of Scotland. As well as excellent self-catering facilities, it sleeps five to six people in three bedrooms and has two bathrooms and a sunroom.
Lochcarron is as pretty as a picture. It doesn't matter what time of the year you visit, you'll be blown away by the scenery and the abundance of ways to enjoy it. The area around Tigh an Eilean is home to roe deer, pine martins, otters, sea eagles, herons, and oystercatchers, so make sure you bring your binoculars. Work up an appetite on the five-mile walk from the cottage through Leacanashie to Ardaneaskan, passing Strome Castle. Attadale Gardens is another lovely spot for a walk, with woodlands, ponds and waterfalls. Serious hill walkers will relish the challenge of nine Munros and eight Corbetts within ten miles of the village. Cioch's Nose is famous amongst climbers, while cyclists are spoiled for choice, whether they prefer cycling along the tarmac to Bealach Beag and Bealach Mor, or heading off-road at Ben Dronaig and Achnashellach.
Sailing is a popular way to explore the loch and lake. Bring your clubs to play on Lochcarron's nine-hole course, or save your legs and ride the spectacularly scenic Kyle Line train that runs from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness. If you ask the driver to stop at Duncraig, you can walk to Plockton for lunch and a seal-watching boat trip. You can take to the water on a kayak and explore the loch's hidden nooks and crannies, delighting in a different view of the landscape. Fishing is another excellent way to immerse yourself - literally, in some cases - in the scenery. You don't need a permit to fish from the jetty in Lochcarron or North Strome shoreline. Alternatively, drive to Ullapool or Gairloch, where boats take anglers sea fishing.
Tigh an Eilean is available for holidays all year round. Weekly bookings run from Friday to Friday, and short breaks may be possible depending on availability.
