About An Taigh Dubh

“An Taigh Dubh” is a delightful and cosy, self catering holiday cottage with its own off street parking. It invites you to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Highlands. Nestled in the heart of the village of Plockton, this unique thatched cottage is the last remaining Heather Thatched Cottage in the area and offers a unique and memorable stay in this enchanting village.

The Cottage itself is of historical interest, a “listed” building, centuries old and believed to date back to around the time of the Highland Clearances. Although traditional in construction externally, the cottage inside is warm and cosy, with all modern comforts. It has studio type open plan accommodation with a well equipped galley style kitchen, comfortable living/ sleeping/ dining area /and en-suite shower room. With its secluded lochside garden overlooking the sea loch of Lochcarron, you can sip your morning coffee as you soak in the tranquil surroundings before you explore all the village has to offer. An Taigh Dubh is an ideal retreat for couples or anyone seeking a peaceful getaway without feeling isolated. It is just a leisurely stroll from the cottage to the village pier. Fishing has long been a way of life in Plockton and you may see fishing boats come and go from the pier or arriving with their catch of Langoustines. The harbour is also busy with visiting yachts and local boats sailing in the summer season. You are also within easy walking distance of Plockton’s fantastic restaurants, bars, and village shops, all celebrated for their Scottish produce. You can indulge in delicious local seafood, and treat yourself to delightful meals and souvenirs, ensuring you have everything you need for a perfect self catering experience in this stunning village. Known as the “Jewel of the Highlands”, Plockton lives up to its name with its breathtaking landscapes, and impressive bird and marine life. There’s no shortage of activities in and around Plockton, whether you fancy swimming, canoeing or sailing on the loch or challenging yourself on the nearby golf courses, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy scenic walks in and around the village or walk to the coral beaches. A highlight of your stay should be a memorable boat trip from the harbour to visit the local seals and even perhaps see an occasional sea eagle or maybe even dolphins on Calum’s seal trip, an experience you won’t forget!

Plockton is a movie buff’s dream, having served as the setting for the beloved television series, “Hamish Macbeth”, and the cult classic the “Wicker Man”. Its ideal location, also makes it a fantastic base for exploring, including the Isle Of Skye, the breathtaking taking Applecross peninsula, and the majestic Torridon mountain range. Just six miles away from Plockton is the village of Kyle of Lochalsh where you will find local shops, a filling station, supermarket and an indoor swimming pool. Don’t miss out on visiting Eilean Donan Castle, a fairy-tale fortress perched at the meeting point of three lochs and accessible via a charming Causeway. With attractions like Attadale Gardens, the ancient Pictish Brochs at Glenelg, and the awe-inspiring Cuillin mountains nearby on the Isle of Skye, every day offers adventure. For an unforgettable day trip from Plockton, you can even take a ferry from the Isle Of Skye to the enchanting small Isles – Eigg, Rhum or Canna. So why wait? Plan yourself a self catering holiday at An Taigh Dubh in Plockton and immerse yourself in the beauty, culture, and adventure of the Highlands.
