St Elmo is a detached chalet-style holiday home in West Mersea, designed for a relaxed stay with dogs in mind. It sleeps five and is perfect for couples, friends, or a small family who want a simple base with an enclosed garden and plenty of parking. You can leave your car and walk to The Victory at Mersea or the White Hart for a drink or dinner, with shops and takeaways nearby as well. Inside, the layout is straightforward, with a ground-floor twin room and cloakroom, plus two bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs, so everyone has space to settle in comfortably.
West Mersea has a unique island character and a working harbour atmosphere that is shaped by the tides and its sailing community. The beach is about a ten-minute walk away, perfect for morning walks or watching the sunset. The estuary edges are popular with birdwatchers and anyone who enjoys a quiet stroll. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the whole day relaxing with coffee, a walk, and a long lunch, then do it all again the next day. With the garden safely enclosed, dogs can wander while you plan your next outing or simply relax.
If you fancy days out, Colchester is close with its castle, museums and zoo, and the landscapes of Constable Country offer gentle exploring around Dedham and Flatford. You're also within reach of traditional seaside towns along the Essex coast for arcades, promenades and fish-and-chips. Back at St Elmo, the enclosed garden is a secure spot for dogs to potter and for you to eat outside, with a barbecue ready for warm evenings. Do note that the Mersea Island causeway can be briefly inaccessible at high tide, so it's worth keeping an eye on tide times when planning trips off-island. Being led by the tides is a charming quirk of island life, and one that adds to Mersea's “proper getaway” feel.

The fully enclosed rear garden is a safe place for dogs and features outdoor furniture and a barbecue for relaxed meals. There is private driveway parking for up to four cars.

WiFi is included. Bed linen and towels are provided. Dogs are welcome; there is a charge for more than one, and more than two dogs are by enquiry. No children under five. Please note that the Mersea Island causeway can be briefly affected at high tide. Arrival 4pm and departure 10am.
