Living
Berrymoor Lodge stands in a calm corner of Kipp Paddock, a short stroll from Kippford’s waterfront and the pubs that make this village such a favourite on the Solway Coast. Sleeping six and designed with families firmly in mind, the lodge offers a relaxed space where everyone can spread out. The master bedroom’s spa-bath en-suite is an unexpected treat, the bunk room has proper full-size beds, and the wraparound decking adds outdoor living space that works in every season. French doors keep the open-plan layout bright, while the grassed areas to either side create safe spots for children — and dogs — to run around. When night falls, turn off the lights and look up; the dark skies here are known for extraordinary stargazing. Both The Anchor Hotel and The Mariner Hotel are within walking distance when you want supper cooked for you.
Kippford has long been considered one of South West Scotland's most attractive waterside villages. The Urr Water widens here into a sheltered estuary that's home to the Solway Yacht Club and a working marina, with views stretching across to the Lake District on clear days. You'll find two friendly pub-restaurants, a daytime café at The Ark, and the much-loved Jubilee Path leading to Rockcliffe — a gentle coastal walk with benches placed precisely where you’d want them for pausing to soak in the scenery. Rockcliffe's small beach and the short path to Castle Point add more to explore. Everyday essentials are easy too: Colvend's convenience store is three miles away, while Dalbeattie’s bakery, butcher and shops provide everything needed for stocking up.
Dumfries and Galloway is wonderfully varied, and Berrymoor Lodge puts you in a great position for discovering it. The Solway Coast’s sandy beaches — including Sandyhills and Rockcliffe — offer quiet days by the sea. Dalbeattie Forest, part of the acclaimed 7stanes network, has mountain-bike trails for all levels as well as scenic walking routes. Wildlife watchers can head to the deer park at Sandyhills, while history lovers can explore the John Paul Jones Birthplace Museum or Dalbeattie Museum. Castle Douglas has a choice of supermarkets and independent shops, and Kirkcudbright’s galleries and festivals add a cultural angle to a stay. Being Scotland, local golf options range from a nine-hole course nearby to several 18-hole courses within easy reach. Also nearby, Gorsebank offers bike hire, fishing, Segway tours, and a nature trail for family days full of fun and adventure. Whether you want coast, forest, wildlife, or good food and a gentle pace of life, this holiday home in Dumfries and Galloway gives you easy access to all of it throughout the year.
