Easter Duiar used to be a simple gamekeeper's cottage, but there is nothing humble about this spacious Cairngorms holiday home. The owners have taken inspiration from the Highland setting on the edge of Advie, blending original stone walls with a timber extension, modern furnishings and a simple colour scheme that allows the beauty of the surrounding woodland to take centre stage without sacrificing the comfort of its guests. It sleeps eleven people in five bedrooms with space for a further two to snuggle down in the self-contained bothy, with excellent self-catering facilities and luxuriously welcome touches like an open fire, games room, and an optional hot tub.
Advie, which is a pretty hamlet with a small population and enormous views, is located around half mile from Easter Duiar. The house is protected from behind by a forest of Scotch pine with open views over the garden and Spey Valley to the hills beyond. Your Highland holiday home's dramatic scenery is everything you could wish for. You can join the Speyside Way and walk the eight miles to Grantown on Spey in around three hours or make the most of the swooping roads across 20 miles to Aviemore. The Moray Coast is under an hour's drive with pretty fishing villages, deliciously fresh seafood, and the opportunities to spot porpoises and dolphins. You'll find a fantastic array of organic foods in the ground-breaking eco-village of Findhorn. This region is famous for its wealth of distilleries, with the soft Speyside spring water giving local whiskies its distinctive flavour, with the house being located along the world renowned Malt Whisky Trail.
Visit in summer for mountain biking, climbing Munros, fishing and golf, or winter for skiing and snowboarding in the ski resorts of the national park. The river and lochs provide ample opportunities for canoeing and windsurfing, or stay dry and explore on horseback or quad bike. The garden is a haven for red squirrels; if you're quiet, you may see some native roe deer who take shelter in the nearby woods. Fill your days with fun and adventure and your evenings with the pleasure of sitting by the fire pit in the garden, admiring the spectacularly starry skies.
