The Granary is a charming Bedfordshire holiday cottage, with all the character of a period conversion combined with contemporary style. There is space for people to stay in two bedrooms. The location is perfect for couples or families who want a comfortable place to stay while on holiday, escaping for a weekend of shopping or golf, visiting family, and the cottage is also a fantastic antidote to staying in a soulless hotel chain when on business in Bedfordshire. The Granary is in the village of Wingfield, just outside the vibrant town of Leighton Buzzard and within walking distance of The Plough Inn where there are Fuller’s beers on tap and an open fire.
Leighton Buzzard is six miles and around a 15-minute drive from The Granary. It is a pretty town with fantastic amenities and lots to see and do. You can get your bearings from the church, which dates from 1277, or the Post Office, which feels almost modern in comparison as it was initially built as a school in 1790. There are lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs so, although The Granary is well equipped for self-catering, you could eat out every night if you prefer not to cook. Leighton Buzzard boasts the nation’s oldest narrow-gauge railway that has never been out of use. The track was laid in 1918 to carry sand from the town’s quarries, and now has steam engines to pull passengers along in vintage carriages. The picturesque Grand Union Canal is another remnant of the town’s quarrying history, and the canal's towpath is a lovely place for a relaxed stroll. Other nearby attractions include Ascott House, Mead Open Farm and Rushmere Country Park.
Bedfordshire’s proximity to London makes it a popular place to live, and it is sometimes overlooked as a holiday destination. However, it is packed with fun and exciting activities that appeal to visitors of all ages. Children love Whipsnade Zoo and Woburn Safari Park, while Woburn is a beautiful Georgian village with a spectacular abbey that is now the family seat of the Dukes of Bedford with an impressive collection of artworks. You can walk or cycle for miles in the Chilterns and Dunstable Downs, and admire the Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aeroplanes. There are shops and theatres, golf courses and spas - even if you only have a few days for your holiday in Bedfordshire, it can be as adventurous or relaxing as you choose.
The Granary is one of three lovely cottages on Hallworth Farm, each of which accommodates up to four people. Being just a few miles from the M1 and within easy reach of Luton Airport, and between 35 and 55 minutes from London’s Euston station by train, means that you can also spend a day exploring London’s fantastic attractions before jumping back on a train and returning to the peace and serenity of your home-from-home.
