The Bothy is perfect for couples or small families, as it sleeps four people in two bedrooms with a wonderfully luxurious bathroom. Every colour, material, design aspect and appliance has been carefully considered to create a boutique self-catering holiday cottage that feels even better than a home-away-from-home. This welcoming property is in Scargill on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a short drive from Barnard Castle and Richmond, and within easy reach of the North York Moors, North Pennines, and the Lake District. This place has everything if you love walking, mountain biking, eating, or history. Even better, a holiday at The Bothy gives you the ultimate luxury of uninterrupted time with your loved ones to unwind and relax in peace.
Scargill is in the northeast of the Yorkshire Dales, close to the North Pennine Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty border. It feels idyllically rural yet has excellent road links that make it easy to explore far and wide. However, you could happily park your car and spend your week exploring on foot or by bicycle. The footpaths and cycling routes in the area include a path across the magnificent moors from Barningham to Stang Forest and through Brignall Banks. The Pennine Way is another favourite route, and there are lots of lovely trails through the Tees Gorge and places like Bowes Castle and Stanwick Iron Age Fortifications. The A66 is just over two miles away to give good access to the Lake District National Park and the A1 motorway.
Barnard Castle is a pretty market town named after the Norman fortification that has stood sentry for more than 800 years. Constructed in the 13th-Century, it was home to Richard III and still commands awe all these centuries later. The town, fondly nicknamed Barney by locals, is a great place to eat, drink and shop for food, having independently owned bars, cafes, a butcher, a greengrocer, and bakeries. There's an excellent farm shop close to the cottage and some great pubs within a few miles for casual dining out. Richmond is only a 20-minute drive away, with more amenities and places to eat.
The Bothy can be booked on its own or with The Coach House, which sleeps two people and is also on the grounds of Scargill Lodge.
