About Smithy Cottage

Smithy Cottage is a charming period holiday cottage in the peaceful hamlet of Grindale, midway between Filey and Bridlington and within easy reach of the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Formerly the village blacksmiths cottage and workshop, it has been skilfully restored to a high standard to provide a wonderful place where couples and families can relax and enjoy exploring the many attractions this region has to offer. While the owners have brought it into the 21st Century with contemporary touches like efficient central heating and WiFi, they have remained true to the building's historic charm to create a unique home-away-from-home.

Grindale's location makes it an excellent place to visit in any season. The location feels quiet and semi-rural, yet is only four miles from the vibrant seaside resort town of Bridlington. Promenade along the seafront or, in summer, treat yourself with a ticket on the Land Train. Bridlington's award-winning beaches are perfect for sunbathing and sandcastles. Children love crabbing from the busy harbour walls, but it's a lovely spot to sit with ice cream and watch the boats coming and going. The Flambridge Heritage Coast is eight miles away. Scarborough is less than half an hour's drive from the cottage, and you can get to historic Whitby in under an hour, giving you a huge expanse of coastline to discover within a small radius. Other places to consider for a day out include the RSPB Nature Reserve at Bempton Cliffs, a haven for a wide variety of seabirds and Danes Dyke, another great nature reserve offering a lovely mix of woodland walks and access to the beach. Hunt for fossils at Reighton or go surfing at Cayton Bay - there is a beach for everyone on the Yorkshire Coast!

Yorkshire is famous for its cycling routes, including the loop from Bridlington to Scarborough that passes close to the cottage. Alternatively, make the most of footpaths leading to landmarks and beauty spots like Flamborough Lighthouse, Fordon Dales, South Landing, and Beacon Hill. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is easily accessible with endless miles of wild beauty. Yorkshire is also renowned worldwide for its impressive history which stretches back further than the Romans. Discover the past of places like York, medieval Beverley, and the maritime City of Culture, Hull. Those who appreciate a stately home's grandeur will be delighted with Burnby Hall, Sewerby Hall, Burton Hall, and the matriarch of them all, Castle Howard.

Smithy Cottage is waiting with a warm welcome, whatever time of the year you choose to stay.
