About Morndyke Annexe

Morndyke Annexe is on the family-run Morndyke Farm close to the North York Moors. The same family have owned the farm for over a century, and currently welcome guests to stay at their beautiful property where they also run a successful equestrian yard and fishery. If you're searching for an authentic slice of Yorkshire countryside, you won't find it better than at Morndyke on the outskirts of Thirsk. Morndyke Annex is a rustic brick cottage renovated to provide very comfortable accommodation for three people in two bedrooms. The owner has provided lots of thoughtful touches that make the cottage feel welcoming and homely. It's ideal for couples but also works well for small families with older children. There is a petrol station with a small shop half a mile away, next to an excellent Indian Restaurant. The Kings Arms pub is a mile north in Sandhutton. Both the restaurant and the pub are great alternatives if you want a night off from cooking.

You'll really feel like you've escaped to the countryside when you stay at Morndyke. Wake up to the sound of free-range hens clucking happily and beautiful views of the Hambledon Hills. After a rib-sticking Yorkshire breakfast, lace up your walking shoes and set out to explore. The owners are happy for guests to walk around the permanent pasture strip, where you're likely to see lapwings, skylarks and butterflies. Walk beside the River Swale or follow the footpath to the former WWII Canadian airbase where the parachute building and control tower still stands. Yorkshire is renowned for its fantastic cycle routes. Whether you're a road cyclist or a mountain biker, you'll find a host of trails to challenge and delight.

Thirsk is three miles east of the cottage. It's a thriving market town beside the River Swale between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, with a wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. A twice-weekly market runs every Monday and Saturday. Thirsk is known worldwide thanks to James Herriott's book, All Creatures Great and Small. His original house and surgery are now an award-winning museum and a contemporary art gallery.

Local attractions also include Thirsk Racecourse and the Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre. The White Horse of Kilburn is 11 miles from the cottage, and you can also visit Fountains Abbey, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, Newby Hall, and Richmond Castle. Days out can include shopping, sightseeing and lunch in Ripon, Harrogate and York. Fans of Downton Abbey and Bridgerton should set aside a day to visit Castle Howard. Whitby is another excellent choice for a day out, being around an hour's drive from the cottage on Yorkshire's spectacular coastline.

In addition to Morndyke Annexe, the owners run an award-winning glamping site with five bespoke shepherd's huts. Please see the owner's website for details on the full range of holiday accommodation they offer.
