About Ravensprings

Ravensprings is a house where memories are made! The late Victorian mansion was originally built for the Mayor of Brighouse so is no stranger to a party, and with space for up to 23 people to sleep in eight bedrooms, you don’t have to leave any of your family or close friends off the guest list. The house is spacious and elegant, set back from the road in a residential area around a mile from Brighouse train station and within walking distance of The Beck Inn pub.

Brighouse started as a small settlement on the River Calder and is a great location for a holiday or short break thanks to its excellent amenities and proximity to cities like Leeds, Manchester, York and Harrogate. Quiet streets lead into a bustling town centre where there is an excellent weekly market, as well as lots of other independent retailers, cafes and restaurants, as well as two large supermarkets. Within a short drive from the house are a golf course, a large indoor/outdoor climbing centre, paintballing (with a discount offered for guests), horse riding, mountain bike trails, caves to explore and mile upon mile of footpaths crossing through both urban landscapes and beautiful countryside.

It can be difficult to arrange a holiday for large groups, but Ravensprings’ fantastic location makes it easy. If guests want shopping and nightlife then jump in the car and you can easily be in Leeds city centre within 20 minutes, or Manchester within 25 minutes. Those who like to be outdoors and active will love being close to the Peak District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offering an enormous variety of footpaths, bridleways, mountain bike trails and excellent cycle routes, or why not hire a barge and spend a leisurely day navigating canals and locks. If history is your thing, visit Bronte country and see the home where the famous sisters grew up, or walk through the magnificent house and grounds at Harewood. There is lots of scope for touring the area, with charming villages and spectacular countryside waiting around the corner.

Ravensprings will welcome you whether you are celebrating a special occasion like a milestone birthday, enjoying an annual catch-up with friends from school or uni, getting in the last knees-up before your wedding, or just spending quality time with the people you love best.

Accommodation Comprises:

Ravensprings is a beautiful Victorian villa with elegant proportions and accommodation spread over three floors. The owner has carefully preserved the original features that give the house character, while making it a welcoming and comfortable holiday home for today's guests. The configuration and prices are for 20 guests but the owners are able to provide a further 3 beds if necessary at an additional cost (please speak to the owner re charges).

Ground Floor:

  • Ravensprings makes a fantastic first impression. A generously sized, 34-foot long sitting room is off the main hall, with large dual aspect windows allowing in lots of natural light. There are several seating areas with comfortable sofas and armchairs where guests can either chat, read or watch the television which also has satellite channels, Sky films and sports and a DVD player. The walls are panelled with mahogany that was salvaged from the Edwardian ocean liner, the Mauretania, and there is a working fireplace with open fire. Ravensprings also has a snooker table for guests entertainment.
  • The dining room is another lovely space with polished floorboards and a bay window that overlooks Ravensprings Park. Two antique tables can seat up to 23 people in total, making it perfect for relaxed or formal meals.
  • A well-equipped kitchen makes light work of catering, featuring a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, free-standing range cooker as well as a fitted gas cooker, fridge/freezer, and washing machine. There is a larder with an additional fridge and freezer so, once you have stocked up for your stay, there is no problem storing all your food and drink. As with the rest of the house, the kitchen has been sympathetically modernised to suit 21-century cooking, while still retaining the warmth and charm of the original Victorian features.
  • There is a comfortable double bedroom with a decorative screen that hides a shower and washbasin. It is across the hall from a separate cloakroom with WC and handbasin - an ideal room for guests who may find stairs difficult.

First Floor:

  • An elegant staircase sweeps up to the first floor landing, off which is the master bedroom with a king-sized hand carved four poster bed. The large window remains private thanks to the villa's position on a corner plot, and offers far-reaching views.
  • Next to the master bedroom (and accessible as an ensuite as well as from the landing), a bathroom has a luxurious double ended antique French bath and a modern power shower.
  • Further down the landing, a double bedroom boasts another beautiful bed that was skilfully crafted from French oak over a century ago.
  • There are two further double rooms on this floor - one with a wrought iron double bed, and the other with a super-kingsized frame and en-suite shower room with WC. All of the beds have high quality sprung mattresses to aid a restful nights sleep.
  • Down the landing from the stairs is a family bathroom with double-sized power shower, 6-foot long bath, twin hand basins, WC and a bidet.

Second Floor:

  • There are three bedrooms on the top floor. Although under the eaves, they have ample headspace, even for taller guests.
  • The first bedroom is a huge bedroom with a 6 single beds It is a favourite with children who love the novelty of sleeping in an attic.
  • The second bedroom on this floor has a king-size bed and a large wardrobe and dressing table and a beautiful arched window with elevated and extensive views.
  • A third bedroom has a double bed with ensuite WC and basin. There is also a shower room and WC on the landing.
  • Another family bathroom has a bath, walk-in shower, WC and 'his and hers' sinks.

Outside: Ravensprings is an impressive house with equally impressive gardens. The corner plot leaves plenty of room to play, and the garden features swings, as well as a patio with a barbecue and 4 large picnic benches. There is private off-street parking for up to five cars, as well as ample and unrestricted parking around the house
