The Stables ticks all the boxes in your search for a dream holiday. Is it in a great location? Absolutely! This gorgeous holiday cottage is in the tranquil Wiltshire Cotswolds, next to the ancient Roman Fosseway and less than a mile from the fantastic Salutation Inn pub in the village of The Gib and two miles from a farmshop in Burton. It's also 4-miles from junction 17 of the M4 and is within easy reach of favourite Cotswold attractions. Do you need a lot of space? The Stables has plenty of it indoors and outside, sleeping six people in three ensuite bedrooms and having a huge garden. Want to bring the kids and the dogs? The cottage has oodles of rustic character and charm blended with modern comforts and thoughtful touches that make it perfect for all family members, even the furry ones.
Nettleton is one of the prettiest villages in Wiltshire. From the bright red phone box by the village green (now a free library where locals swap books) to its winding country footpaths and hedgerows with clouds of cow parsley, it is, in the best Mary Poppins tradition, practically perfect in every way. Rambling footpaths lead through and around the village, including a picturesque 3.5-mile route from Nettleton Mill to Castle Combe, following the By Brook River for part of the way.
Local attractions include the charming village of Castle Combe, a village so scenic that it's been used as a filming location for a host of movies and TV shows. Even more photogenic is the National Trust village of Lacock and the medieval Lacock Abbey, used extensively as a film set in Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Wolf Hall, Downton Abbey and many other period films. Lacock has an even closer link to film, being home to the Fox Talbot specialist photography museum. Other places to visit are Bowood House, the indulgent Thermae Bath Spa, and Longleat Safari Park. Check the calendar for Castlecombe Circuit, time your visit for the week of the Badminton Horse Trials, or spend a lovely autumnal day admiring the beauty of Westonbirt Arboretum. The Stables is only 10 minutes from Grittleton House and The Manor House. It is ideal if you are visiting the area to attend a wedding or getting married and want somewhere welcoming and comfortable for out-of-town friends and family to stay.
Whether you're a regular visitor to the Cotswolds or this is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, and you want to stay in the quintessential English country cottage, The Stables will leave you with memories you will always treasure.
