About Chapel Cottage

Chapel Cottage has everything you could wish for in a Wiltshire holiday cottage. To start with, it's beautiful, with a thatched roof, cottage garden and original features dating back 250 years. It also ticks the location box, being in the heart of the pretty village of Pewsey in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a short stroll from a bakery, shops, takeaways, and the Royal Oak pub. The layout of the cottage works well for couples or families. There is space for five people to sleep in three bedrooms with a folding bed to squeeze in an extra guest if required, yet the area isn't overwhelming if there's only two or three of you staying. It's perfect whether you're there for a week or squeezing in a country escape over a long weekend.

Pewsey is a popular destination for a holiday as it's wonderfully central without feeling busy or crowded. The Vale of Pewsey is famous amongst walkers and cyclists for the wealth and beauty of its footpaths and cycling trails. The Great West Way and King Alfred's Trail, a 350km circular cycling route, are accessible from the village. The Long Barrow at All Cannings is another top destination for a walk or bike ride, as is the Pewsey White Horse, one of eight chalk horses remaining in Wiltshire (others are at Westbury, Cherhill, Marlborough, Alton Barnes, Hackpen, Broad Town, and Devizes).

Further afield but still close enough for a fun day out are Stonehenge, National Trust Stourhead, Lacock Abbey, and Longleat Safari Park. You can also spend a day shopping and sightseeing in Bath and Salisbury. Pewsey Wharf is on the magnificent Kennet and Avon Canal, which you can explore via the towpath or by hiring a canal boat for the day. The train from Pewsey to London only takes an hour, so a day in the nation's capital is also a possibility.

Wiltshire is the sort of place you can enjoy all year round as it always looks gorgeous, and there is usually something fun happening whether it's a weekly market, food or music festival, summer fete or a Christmas fair. Week-long holiday bookings are available all year round with short breaks (minimum three nights over a weekend) available depending on availability.

Location (Wiltshire)

Accommodation Comprises:

Chapel Cottage is a period property dating back in parts to the mid-1700s, and you can expect a few charming quirks here and there. Accommodation is over two levels and has been sympathetically updated to feel comfortable to 21st Century guests.

Downstairs:

  • Relax into the comfort of a leather sofa at the end of a long day, or settle back on the window seat and watch village life in action. The cottage's age is evident in the original oak beams contrasting with the very modern Smart TV complete with Netflix and Disney+ channels.
  • Families love the open-plan kitchen/diner - a welcoming space where people will gather happily to eat together, talk about the day's adventures and plan what is to come. Cupboards are well-stocked with plates, glasses, utensils and equipment for self-catering, and there is plenty of room to store food and prepare meals.
  • Laundry facilities and cleaning equipment are in the separate utility area next to the kitchen.
  • Soak in the bath or wake up in a shower in the family bathroom, which also has a heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Sleep in style in the master bedroom, which features a beautiful king-sized leather sleigh bed, built-in storage, and a TV.
  • Built-in storage is a convenient feature of the second bedroom, beautifully decorated with chinoiserie wallpaper and bedding on the double bed.
  • A third bedroom has a single bed with a pull-out truckle bed to sleep one or two people.

Outside: The cottage has a small garden with outdoor seating. There is free parking a short walk from the house and a lockable garage for a small car or bicycle storage around 800 metres away.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Pets and smoking are not permitted. A travel cot and highchair are available - guests to bring cot bedding.
