It is a fine example of a North Warwickshire market town with a twice-weekly market dating back to the 1200s. Stop by on Wednesday and Friday for fresh local produce for self-catering, or treat yourself to a meal at one of the town's cafes, pubs and restaurants. Stroll around the town's beautiful park, hire a boat and cruise along the Coventry Canal, and admire the home of Mary Ann Evans, better known by her pen name of George Eliot, who lived in Nuneaton and wrote about the lives of the Victorians who helped to shape it. Other attractions are the Arbury Estate, Hartshill Hayes Country Park, Charnwood Forest, and the award-winning visitor centre at Bosworth, where Richard III's death signalled the end of the War of the Roses and the birth of the Tudor dynasty. The Bullring in Birmingham and Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon are well within an hour's drive away.
