Ayres End Studio is in Kersey, one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. The thatched, single storey Studio is perfect for couples or individuals who want a private, relaxing, luxurious self-catering accommodation. It is set in a secluded, beautiful garden with exclusive use of an ancient summer house. Kersey, with its medieval houses, 12th century Church, the iconic Splash and the famous Bell Inn a short stroll away, is a perfect place for local walks or visits to beaches and historic sites in Suffolk.
Kersey is a picturesque village notable for the charming medieval timber houses lining The Street between the church and the river ford. It's rare to see so many houses of this age in such excellent condition, still as full of family life as when constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries. A walk from the studio up the hill to the steps by St Mary's Church is a wonderful way to orientate yourself, slaking your thirst with a pint in the Bell Inn on your way back down. Continue around The Green, admiring flower-filled gardens before following one of the circular routes that link the village with the surrounding countryside. The Kersey Upland walk is 4.5 miles, adding an extra mile if you include Groton Wood. The Copse and Tye trail is 3.5 miles. Both are accessible from the studio gate.
The nearest place for groceries is Hollow Trees Farm Shop at Semer, or in Hadleigh, both two miles away from Kersey. Hadleigh has a Morrisons and a Co-op supermarket as well as some independent specialist food and wine shops. There is also a small weekly market each Friday morning. Sudbury is a 20-minute drive from the cottage, with a broader choice of amenities. Local attractions include National Trust Guildhall in Lavenham and St James Chapel. Book a hawk walk or a bird of prey encounter with Lavenham Falconry, or take a stroll on Hall Street in Long Melford, reputed to be the longest High Street in England. Spend a relaxing few hours in Bury St Edmunds, admiring Suffolk's only cathedral, and take time to enjoy Ipswich attractions like The Waterfront, Christchurch Mansion, and the other museums.
The owners of Ayres End Studio provide a welcome box with fresh bread, eggs, milk, fruit, tea and coffee. The Studio is in the grounds of their house, though it is entirely private and self-contained.
