The Garden Lodge is in an excellent location for a self-catering holiday in Somerset. Whether you're sightseeing, cycling, hiking, birdwatching or golfing, you'll be very comfortable doing it from this single-storey holiday cottage that sleeps four people in two bedrooms with a double sofabed in the living room. It's great for couples and families, with kids loving the bunk beds and adults appreciating that they can relax on the deck while their children run and play happily in the large garden. The cottage is a short walk from the village pub in North Wootton, and you're only a ten-minute drive from more places to eat and drink in Wells.
North Wootton is a picturesque villagejust south of the Mendip Hills AONB. Wells Cathedral is only three miles from the cottage and close enough to walk or cycle if you want to take advantage of the scenic country lanes. Wells feels more like a big village or a busy market town than a city, with a regular population of around 12,000 served by three supermarkets, cafes, pubs, shops and other local amenities. There is a twice-weekly outdoor market every Wednesday and Saturday, and if you time your visit for the second weekend in October, you can enjoy the Wells Food Festival.
Somerset is great for a holiday as a wide variety of sights and attractions appeal to everyone. Walking and cycling are popular all year round, with miles of footpaths, mountain bike trails in the Mendips and Quantocks, and country lanes for road cycling. Walk to St Michael's Tower at the top of Glastonbury Tor or along the coast at Weston Super Mare. Attractions include Glastonbury Abbey, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge Caves, and Clarks Village retail outlet. The Bath and West Show runs over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, with the showground hosting agricultural, motoring, music and other events throughout the year. Weston Super Mare, Brean, and Burnham-on-Sea are an hour away, as are Bristol, Bath and Frome. Weymouth, Lyme Regis, and other beaches on the Dorset coast are around 90 minutes.
