About Tŷ 19

Tŷ 19 puts you right in the heart of North Wales. The period stone holiday cottage, built to house quarrymen and their families in the 1800s, is just over the border of Snowdonia National Park and within easy reach of Anglesey and the beautiful North Wales coast. It's ideal for anyone who enjoys being outdoors whether your taste is for spectacular and dramatic mountains, relaxing coastline, or anything in between. There is space for up to four people to sleep in two bedrooms and the size and layout suit couples or small families. Tŷ 19 is in the quiet village of Rachub, within walking distance of the bakery and The Royal Oak pub.

It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the cottage is close to Snowdonia National Park - the border is only 30-yards up the lane. Walks can include challenging hill climbs and mountain passes, relaxed strolls along the coastal footpath, or gentle walks along through woodland and countryside. The owner is an experienced walker and keen to help guests make the most of their stay, so they have provided a wealth of maps and information about the local area in the cottage. They also offer guided walks if you want first-hand knowledge from a local.

Cyclists are well catered for with routes that include the Lôn Las Ogwen cycle path from Porth Penrhyn in Bangor to Cwm Idwal (National Cycle Route 5 or 85), and mountain bike centres around Betws y Coed, the Gwydir Forest, and Coed y Brenin (near Dolgellau). You can also ride up (and down) Snowdon at certain times, following the Snowdon Voluntary Cycling Agreement. Climbing is another way visitors immerse themselves in this incredible landscape, with choices for both rock and ice climbing. Be warned that these cliffs are not for the faint-hearted - they were climbed by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to prepare for their successful 1953 summit of Mount Everest!

Local attractions include the Slate Museum in Llanberis, Conwy Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Bounce Below and Zip World. Take a ride on a heritage train or a boat trip from Beaumaris to Puffin Island. Time your visit to coincide with one of the region's many festivals that celebrate food, music, and the culture and history of Wales.

Tŷ 19 has everything you need for a fantastic self-catering holiday in any season.
