Tan y Coed is a modern holiday home with a timeless appeal. Its luxurious interior balances beautifully with its incredible setting on the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, surrounded by Welsh countryside and only two miles walking from Barmouth and Fairbourne beaches. It can accommodate eight guests in four bedrooms so whether you are a large family or a group of friends, you will find your space here.
The house has been designed and built to make the most of its amazing views of the Mawddach Estuary and surrounding mountains. It is close to the village of Arthog on the banks of the Mawddach River. The Mawddach Trail is directly across the road from Tan y Coed, giving nine miles of relatively flat walking or cycling along an old railway line following the course of the estuary, spotting birds and other wildlife. There are also lots of beaches / trails and forests for your dog to enjoy.
Tan y Coed is centrally located for all of the Zipworld activities including a thrill seeking zip line, underground trampoline, treetop nets and forest toboggan run.
The Barmouth passenger ferry turns a ten-mile road journey into a three-mile trip. Barmouth has some excellent shops, pubs and cafes, as well as a fantastic beach and lovely harbour. It is lively in summer and relaxed during autumn and winter, but always a pleasure to visit. Another place with significant amenities is Dolgellau, seven miles away. The market town makes the perfect destination for an enjoyable bike ride, particularly if you are there on Thursday for the weekly market or the larger monthly farmers’ market. There are many excellent food producers in the region, and you may find yourself stocking your bag with goodies to take home with you!
Arthog Falls and Cadair Idris are popular routes for hikers but, despite their popularity, never feel busy or crowded. Indeed, there are days when you could walk for hours and not see another soul. Guests can reach Arthog Falls via a path leading from the house through an ancient oak forest. For visitors who find walking too slow a pace, Coed y Brenin Forest is around 12 miles (or a 20-minute drive) from Tan y Coed, with miles of walking, running routes and it’s world famous mountain bike trails including family friendly trails to suit all ages and abilities. There is also a café/play area.
Snowdonia National Park is well known for its beaches as well as its mountains, and there is pristine coastline just a few short miles from the house. Whether you drive, walk, or climb aboard the Fairbourne Miniature Steam Railway to get there, the miles of golden sandy beaches will provide ample space for building sand castles and exploring. It is also possible to arrange horseriding through the county or on the beach through a neighbouring farm.
Getting away from it all doesn’t have to mean giving up the luxuries that make you happy. At Tan y Coed you can have space and comfort in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain.
