About Penbryn Holidays

Penbryn Holidays is a spacious property in the seaside resort town of Barmouth with fantastic views over the Mawddach Estuary and Barmouth Bay. There are four bedrooms to sleep up to 9 guests, with an ideal layout for extended or combined families, although it's also very suitable for groups of friends. The self-catering cottage sits in an elevated position within walking distance of the beach, shops, cafes and friendly pubs like The Last Inn.

Barmouth has been a top choice for a holiday since the mid-1800s when the early Victorians discovered the charms of this busy ship-building town where the Mawddach River meets the Irish Sea. You can enjoy a proper bucket-and-spade holiday with paddling, ice cream, fish and chips. Alternatively, switch out the sandcastles for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing offshore or on a river, walking, cycling, and hiking through the Cader Idris Mountain Range. The landscape here is so diverse that you can try out virtually any outdoor activity that you can think of, filling your days with adventure and energy.

The proximity of mountains (just a 10-minute walk into the mountain range!) and sea is one of the many reasons why Barmouth is an ideal choice for a holiday in every season. Snowdonia National Park is within easy reach, as is Coed-y-Brenin, putting you close to some of the most exciting footpaths and mountain bike trails in the entirety of Wales. The Panorama Walk is almost a rite of passage for keen walkers visiting Barmouth and the Penbryn is on route to the walk. It can be split into two parts. The first half of the walk starts in town and goes up through woodland to Victorian gardens and the ruins of the original tea room. It's possible to park close to the gardens to make the walk and the views accessible to more people. The second part of the walk is a steep climb with the reward of spectacular views of Barmouth Bridge, the estuary, and Cader Idris. Other trails around Barmouth include The Precipice Walk, Dinas Oleu (just 5 minutes from the cottage and the first National Trust property), Torrent Walk, and the path beside Arthog Falls. The Mawddach Trail is very well known. It's a traffic-free walking and cycling route that follows an old railway line for nine miles between Barmouth and Dolgellau, providing beautiful views.

Day trips from Barmouth can include sightseeing in Porthmadog and Portmeirion, reaching Snowdon's peak on foot or by train, marvelling at the scale of Harlech and Caernarfon Castles, walking along the Wales Coast Path, adventures in Betws y Coed and Bala, spotting dolphins and whales in Cardigan Bay, or surfing and sunbathing on the Llyn Peninsula.

Penbryn Holidays is two welcoming properties that can be opened up into one spacious holiday home, or kept separate and rented independently of the other.
