Driftwood Cottage could not be any more "seafront" without actually being on the beach. The charming stone cottage started life a century ago as a simple home for a quarry worker and his family. Today, 100 years after it was built, it is a family-friendly self-catering holiday property in Penmaenmawr, captivating couples with its uninterrupted sea views. The beach, promenade, cafes, shops and the Bron Eryri pub are all conveniently within walking distance.
Penmaenmawr is on the North Wales coast, close to Conwy with fantastic views over Conwy Bay to Puffin Island and Anglesey. Its vast sandy beach makes it a popular summer holiday destination as it has a diverse array of attractions and beauty spots. An excellent way to orientate yourself is with a stroll along the promenade, stopping for a photo by the traditional beach huts before treating yourself to a restorative slice of cake at the Beach Cafe. Visit the Penmaenmawr Museum to find out more about the town's past, stroll through the gardens of the Parc Plas Mawr, and try not to let yourself be too distracted by the sensational views as you play a round of golf.
Conwy is only a 10-minute drive from the cottage. The town is home to a magnificent castle - one of the Iron Ring of castles constructed on the orders of Edward I which is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated in the shadow of the battlements is the smallest house in Britain, measuring a mere 180 centimetres wide. Conwy also has an impressive suspension bridge, National Trust properties, and a great choice of places to eat, drink and shop. Other local attractions include the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Dolwyddelan Castle, and the Great Orme Tramway.
North Wales is an adventurer's playground with loads of opportunities to walk, mountain bike, sail and windsurf, fish, and go coasteering. The Snowdon Mountain Railway in Llanberris is about half an hour's drive, or you could walk to Wales' highest peak up one of six routes of varying difficulty. Alternatively, take the way-marked Upland Walk above Penmaenmawr where the steep climb is rewarded with unforgettable panoramic views.
Driftwood Cottage is available for short breaks or longer stays all year round. Its seafront location and period charm make it the perfect escape for a romantic holiday.
