About Weston Cottage

Weston Cottage is in a stunning location in the south of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with magnificent views over the river Teme and wooded hillsides. The period cottage dates from the 1700s and has the characteristic black-and-white half-timbered frames typical of this region, as well as many original features that add to its charm.

South Shropshire has some of the best rural views in England. This landscape is a magnet for walkers who come for the fantastic footpaths like the one leading from the cottage to the top of Stowe Hill with views of Shropshire, Herefordshire and over the Welsh border into Powys. This is a landscape where you can escape - choose the right path and you may not see another person all day. The wide-open space provides the perfect antidote to busy modern lives full of noise and stress. Here, it's just you and the sky (and maybe the occasional sheep or pony!) Other local footpaths include the long-distance Offa's Dyke, Elan Valley Way, Jack Mytton Way, and Glyndwr's Way. The Kerry Ridgeway goes through Bishop's Castle on its route between Knighton and Newtown, or you may prefer to walk a stretch of the Herefordshire Way that connects Leominster, Bromyard, Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Kington.

Any supplies you need for your self-catering holiday can be purchased in the nearby market town of Knighton, two miles from Weston Cottage with an excellent choice of independent shops and cafes as well as a supermarket. Knighton is over the border in Wales and has a fascinating past you can learn about by following the self-guided Knighton Trail. Days out can include shopping and sightseeing in Ludlow, discovering Ironbridge - a UNESCO World Heritage Site with nine working museums, visiting Powis Castle and Gardens, or exploring the county town of Shrewsbury.

Weston Cottage is a captivating piece of Shropshire's history. The charming cottage is as welcoming to visitors today as it was 400 years ago when it was new. Guests love the character that makes them feel at home as soon as they arrive, with artwork, antiques and cosy touches everywhere.
