The Barn, Church Bank Farm is an ideal choice for couples seeking a romantic escape in the country. The Grade II listed barn is brimming with charm and character, combining original features like thick wooden beams, with an incredible location and amazing views of the Stiperstones and The Callow. You could not wish for anything more from a cottage in Shropshire. The cottage is in the hamlet of Rowley, close to the border between England and Wales. It feels remote, yet is only a 15-minute drive from Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Montgomery.
Shrewsbury has some of the best preserved Tudor half-timbered houses in Britain, a castle and museum, lovely churches and pretty parks. The River Severn flows around the town and it is possible to cross a bridge over the river and arrive in Wales on the other side. Welshpool is famous for the cattle market it hosts every Monday - one of the largest in the European Economic Community, as well as the ancient sandstone Powys Castle. The Offa’s Dyke long distance walking path is just a mile outside of town, making Welshpool a popular stop-off for walkers. The views from Montgomery Castle take in the town’s medieval lanes and Georgian buildings. Montgomery also has two museums and a local brewery.
The Barn, Church Bank Farm is blissfully peaceful. Walk outside into five stunning acres of private gardens, or continue walking until you reach the top of Long Mountain. There are waymarked footpaths to suit all abilities, as well as fantastic mountain bike trails and the opportunity to see the area on horseback with the help of the friendly residents at neighbouring Long Mountain Riding Centre.
Other nearby towns and attractions include Ludlow, Much Wenlock, Ironbridge, Lake Vyrnwy, the Severn Valley Steam Railway, Attingham Park, and Burford House. Surrounding villages enjoy a wide choice of pubs and restaurants, so there is no shortage of places to eat whether you want a quick bar snack or a substantial meal at a contemporary gastro-pub.
The Barn, Church Bank Farm is an excellent location for people who like to be as active as possible on their holidays as well as for those who simply want to find a quiet place to sit and enjoy a lovely view. The surrounding towns provide plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, while the cottage location puts some of the most beautiful parts of England and Wales within an easy drive.
