Stable Cottage at the Grange is a period property with a contemporary feel and a location only a few minutes' walk from the wonderful Shropshire town of Ellesmere. As holiday cottages go, this one is a fantastic find, sleeping four guests in two very comfortable ensuite bedrooms, with an open-plan living space and a private courtyard garden. Whether you're a couple escaping to Shropshire for long country walks, pub lunches and browsing antique shops, or an active family coming to cycle, boat on the Mere, and explore local attractions, you'll quickly feel right at home. The converted stables are in the grounds of the owner's home, the Grange, with guests having access to their wonderful wildflower meadow. Please note that short breaks are not available (7 night bookings or longer with a Friday changeover, and sorry but no children under the age of 5).
Ellesmere is named after its picturesque mere, a beautiful lake where locals and visitors enjoy fishing, boating, picnics, walking and birdwatching. It's barely a 10-minute walk from the cottage to the Mere and Ellesmere's plentiful shops, excellent delicatessen, local butcher, and characterful pubs like The Black Lion and White Hart. You can quickly pick up the essentials from the supermarket or take your time selecting local produce and browsing at the Tuesday market that's been held weekly since 1221. Alternatively, drive or cycle the eight miles to Oswestry, another lovely market town with a thrice-weekly (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) market and a wide choice of places to eat, drink and shop.
Shropshire is best known for its beautiful walks and bike rides. You certainly won't be disappointed in the choice of routes, including an eight-mile loop from the cottage to Welshampton, returning via the Mere. In fact, the National Cycle Network Route 455 passes through Ellesmere. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is another favourite destination for walkers and cyclists. Day trips can include visiting Attingham Park, Chirk Castle, the RAF Museum in Cosford, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Powis Castle, Erddig, Shrewsbury, Chester and Llangollen.
Stable Cottage at the Grange welcomes guests all year round, and whatever time of year you stay, there are many activities and attractions to enjoy.
