Mount Cottage sleeps four guests in two bedrooms and sits in a beautifully unspoiled part of South West Shropshire. On the doorstep of Mid Wales, Mount Cottage offers superb opportunities for walkers including Offa's Dyke and the Shropshire Way which run through Bishops Castle. Retaining lots of original character and charm, the cottage sits in its own walled garden in a peaceful position and provides an ideal base for exploring the areas many attractions including Bury Ditches iron age fort, Long Mynd and Stiperstones, all closeby.
Both fishing and riding are available locally and there are lovely country houses, gardens and castles to visit including NT Powis Castle with the Clive Museum (displaying Indian treasures and artifacts) and spectacular hanging gardens. The Mid Wales coastline provides a lovely day trip out with a beautiful sixty mile drive taking you through picturesque countryside.
Bishops Castle is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding Shropshire (and Mid Wales) countryside with numerous marked walks taking you over rolling moorland, hills, wooded valleys, farmland and forests (great place for dogs to enjoy a run). A small characterful market town, Bishops Castle is steeped in history and has lots of old, picturesque buildings which add to its charm. It once had a 12th Century stone castle but today there is little left of its remains with much of its stone being used used to build houses in the town. A post office, chemist, small supermarket and other interesting shops can be found in the town, along with six pubs serving good food (the Six Bells and the Three Tuns both have their own breweries serving traditional ales that don't get much more local!).
