About St Johns Cottage

St John's Holiday Cottage easily sleeps 12 guests in four bedrooms (plus an extra 4 on two sofa beds), and it is as comfortable for large or extended families as it is for smaller groups who appreciate the extra space. The pretty 17th-Century cottage in the rural village of Ryhall has been sympathetically restored to offer 4-star accommodation within walking distance of two pubs: The Wicked Witch and The Green Dragon.

Rutland is a tiny county in the East Midlands which remains beautifully untouched by the ravages of the 20th-Century. Many of the original Georgian stone buildings remain, giving the towns and villages a peaceful, timeless appeal. Being close to the centre of Ryhall means guests at St John's Holiday Cottage can walk to the village shop and square, pubs, church and an excellent butcher. The charming sight of ducks bobbing in the river will encourage you to take your time as you stroll around the village.

Exploring on foot is an excellent way to get a feel for the landscape. There is a lovely walk to the nearby village of Tolthorpe where the open-air theatre hosts a season of Shakespeare plays every summer. Burghley House is also nearby, while the county town of Stamford is only two miles away and easily reached by bike or car if you choose not to walk.

Other places to explore include Oakham, Uppingham and Oundle, and it is simple to plan a fun day out at local attractions such as Sacrewell Farm Park or Rutland Water with its beach, Aqua Park (the largest in the country!), nature reserves and fantastic water sports (including Britain's finest inland sailing). Opportunities for horse riding, cycling, rock climbing, sailing, bird watching, fishing and windsurfing are all within reach.

Rutland is one of England's best-kept secrets yet it offers so much for visitors. The central yet quiet location of St Johns Holiday Cottage is perfect for celebrating a special occasion or enjoying a memorable holiday everyone will love.

Location (Rutland)

Accommodation Comprises:

The Georgian period features of St John's Holiday Cottage have been skilfully blended with contemporary comforts and high-quality furnishings.

Downstairs:

  • Spacious sitting room with a solid oak floor and original beams. Settle back on a sofa or armchair in front of a warming open fire in the inglenook fireplace, watch TV, make use of the house's WiFi or chat and catch up with each other. The sofa bed can accommodate extra guests.
  • Second reception room with window seats looking into the cottage garden, oak floor and original beams. A sofa in this room opens into a double bed to sleep up to two extra adults.
  • Fitted kitchen with Shaker-style units and a generously sized country-kitchen table that seats up to 16 people. The kitchen is well-equipped with a double range cooker and an integrated dishwasher to make meals for family and friends easy, while the richly coloured walls and pretty plates on display in the dresser make it a welcoming space where people will naturally come together.
  • Single bedroom with an oak floor and garden views.
  • Utility and cloakroom accessed via the rear door with a WC, hand basin and washing machine.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a double bed and a single bed. White painted floorboards and a fitted wardrobe add to the sense of space, and the window overlooks the garden. There is space for a cot which the owner can have set up for your arrival if it is required.
  • Second spacious bedroom with a king-sized bed and two single beds with vanity unit.
  • Family bathroom with a deep Victorian-style bath, walk-in shower, WC and handbasin.

Garden Room: A few steps from the main cottage, the Garden room is a separate annexe that is ideal for grandparents, teenagers or guests who want extra privacy. It has a small double bed and a single bed, and a modern ensuite wetroom with a shower, WC and handbasin.

Outside: The cottage has beautiful enclosed gardens with fragrant flowering plants, a York stone patio, garden furniture and a barbecue. There is off-street parking for up to five cars. It is possible to arrange the hire of an outdoor hot tub - please enquire when booking.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi and sheets are included with guests to provide towels and cot sheets (if required). Short breaks (minimum of two nights) are possible, depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted. Outside catering available by arrangement (please enquire with the owner).
